What SMS app do you use?

I find all SMS apps are reliable with IR, but not with bluetooth. But using IR is a pain.

I have purchased SimpleSMS, SMS Manager, and Instant SMS, but none of them works reliably with my iPaq 2210 and Ericsson T68 via bluetooth. Sure these apps can send/receive SMS, but not everytime. It's frustrating that just when I'm about to send, my 2210 won't connect to the phone, and only a soft reset will cure the problem.

(I used to have an iPaq 3850 with a sleeve and a CF Bluetooth Adapter, and that set up did not work well with these apps either.)

Recently I discovered Smart GSM. This one seems rock solid. It connects evertime without fail. The beauty of this app is that it connects via bluetooth at the onset, and does not let go of the connection (unlike Simple SMS and SMS Manager, that connect to the phone only when actually sending/receiving). Sending is fast because you're already connected, and incoming SMS is routed immediately to my 2210.

InstantSMS is like that too, but InstantSMS does not multi-task. And unlike InstantSMS, you can change recepients without disconnecting the bluetooth connection.

So before I spend another hard earned US$22, does anyone know of a better SMS app?

I also use SimpleSMS with the same PDA-phone combination. Unlike the problems you mentioned, the only time my devices fail me is if I've forgotten to turn Bluetooth on. Maybe you should check your 2210's ROM version? ROM v.1.1 is supposed to fix some Bluetooth issues...

I wouldn't mind taking a look at Smart GSM, though. Could you provide us with a link?

It does a lot more than send SMS, but I'm not into those sort of things. I just need an SMS app.

I used exactly the same configuration for some 10 months (before upgrading to the PL720 and the t610), and have never had any problems. Sure, the 2210 needs a reset for the BT to work now-and-then, but, for most of the time, Simple SMS (my choice) worked flawlessly.

I've even written a really big review of the SMS apps available a year ago - http://www.pdamania.hu/content/1840 (sorry for the non-English language - if you want to know what e.g. the table - they're the most important of the entire article - rows mean, I translate them for you). If there's some interest, I'll write a updated, English language article.

BTW: I used the 2210 + t68i combo with both the factory-default ROM version 1.0 and 1.10. Both worked OK.
