I'd like to download HTML pages from the internet to view offline on my PPC. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to specify which pages to download, how deep to search, whether or not to go out of the current domain, whether to save and/or compress images, etc.

I want to be able to just save them on my SD card and not have to download yet another specialized viewer program, which rules out iSilo and the such. I'm just looking for the desktop program.

I used to use Plucker (http://www.plkr.org/) during my Palm days and loved it. I'm looking for a similar desktop program.

Any suggestions?

Robb

There is Snipper http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/snipper.shtml, but it only works with three sources.

You can create custom channels at http://www.avantgo.com, which sounds like what you're after.

If you already like Plucker, Vade Mecum (http://vade-mecum.sourceforge.net/) is a freeware viewer for Pocket PC. I've never really set things up with Plucker so I can't vouch for it personally.

Those are both nice programs, but you're missing the point.

I don't want to install yet another specialized viewer on my PPC.

I am looking for a desktop program that will strip and save HTML files locally.

That's all.

That way I can use PIE, which I like just fine, and does the job and is built in.

I don't want it to convert it to some exclusive format.

I don't want to use IE's File/Save As... menu item.

I don't want (or should I say, can't reliably) use cached Mobile Favorites.

I just want a desktop program that'll let me say "download and save all the HTML files that are linked 2 pages deep from this particular web page, but don't save pictues and don't save any web pages that are not on this domain or that don't match www.thiswebsite.com/someindex/*.html"

Thanks,

One I ran across is HTTrack (http://www.httrack.com/) but I don't know how easy it is. It seems most of the programs with good UI's either are or have gone commercial.

Actually, Avantgo displays in PIE, unless you install the version 5 beta. It also does all of the formatting and gathering work for you.

I started with Avantgo, then used iSilo for a couple of months. Now I found Sunrise + VadeMecum (both free) to be the best combination for offline browsing websites.

You find more info on Sunrise here (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=64) and more info on VadeMecum (Plucker Viewer) here (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18).

I tried HTTrack and that is exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks,
