Microsoft has made available Photo Story 3 for free. Available for download here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...ry/default.mspx

This tool allow to "make show-n-tell" the digital still pictures to a video show (wmv format) with automatic panning, zooming, narration or music background. However below are some caveats:

1- Available to "genuine Windows XP users" only
2- Using PocketPC WMP10 profile, It works very well in full motion and full screen on QVGA PPC. On the X50v, the video displays very small in both WMP10 skinned and full screen. If I use the profile for PC in 640x480, I can see full screen but the motion and transition are very jerky.....After spending lots of time on it. I came up with the below solutions (I don't know much about the video stuff, so the experts, please add your comments!

a-According to one of the Firstloox.org forum: The registry contains a maximumheight and maximumwidth parameter for media player. By adjusting these parameters he could get video to play to the full window. In \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Player\Video\ there are two keys:
Maximum Height, this is set to 240, which should read 480
Maximum Width, this is set to 320, where the real maximum is of course 640. This change will also help to view your old wmv files in full screen.

b-On your PC, download and unzip the modified profile to /Program Files/Photo Story 3/Profiles/1033/ . You can download my modified profile here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=61938

c-Use Photo Story 3 with PocketPC profile for output. The display will be in 480x360 not in total full screen, but the motion, transition are very smooth.

Very interesting...I'm going to give this a try today and if it works, I'll make this into a tip and give you credit. :-)

Jason, Glad you saw this...

I use Windows Movie Maker, the profile for PocketPC seems to be OK in full screen on the Axim X50v..But I don't know how to set up the right paramaters for Photo Story 3. They don't use the same video encoder perhaps.

This experiment was over pretty quickly - the instructions aren't complete. From the root registry editing menu, these are the trees:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS

Which one is the registry key in? I tried searching for the keyword "video", "height", and "width" but came up dry.

This is an on X50v, so how did you manage this registry hack?

Photos Story 3 uses the same encoder, but a different codec - the Windows Media 9 Image v2 codec.

HKLM means: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ;-)

Jason, I hope you found it. I have no problem on my X50v..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Player\Video

Oh. Why didn't you just say that? :)

Jason, I hope you found it. I have no problem on my X50v..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Media Player\Video

I don't have that - I only have an AUDIO sub-tree. No video - I triple-checked it.

However, I did find it under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/ASFcodecs/Video/

Then it breaks down into file types - I have height/width for each file type...but in checking every one, they're all set to 640 x 480. So now I'm really confused. :?

You didn't go far enough....
There are 3 subtrees:
+Windows Media Player
+Windows Media Player 8
+Windows Media Player 8.1

The last one (8.1) has Video... :-)
:D

In which tree? I've looked in both /Winows Media Player and /MediaPlayer and can't see those trees.

Can you please post the 100% full complete path?

I'm 100% certain I don't have that registry key. We're both using X50v's, right? That makes no sense. :? My listing goes:

Windows
Windows CE Services
Windows Media Player
Audio
WMDM

I can take a screeshot and email to you if you want...

That's UTTERLY bizarre. I'm using ROM version A01. Do you have the same version?

I don't have this key either. What is your version number in Media Player

I think, b'cause I installed a couple of plugins (ASF for Betaplayer), which might have altered the Registry parms. The Video parm only existe in Windows Media Player 8.01. In Windows media Player, there is only audio.

BTW, I just copy the Video parms as below to
+Windows Media Player
Audio
Parameters
Video
Color Depth 0x10(16)
Fit Width 0x0(0)
Maximum Height 0x1E0 (480)
Maximum Width 0x280(640)
Sound Quality 0x2(2)

It works OK

FYI, I don't think it would exist because of the BetaPlayer plugins. I have this key on my h1940 and I don't have any BetaPlayer plugins installed at all. Nevertheless, there's nothing a "New Key" function can't fix anyway. If you don't have the key, just add it. ;)

We are testing on the Axim X50v with WMP10. On the h1940, the WMP version is 8 or 8.01, which have the Video key.

Anyway, I added the Video key with all the parms to the WMP10. It seems to be OK.

Sorry. I forgot it was a WMP10 / X50v specific testing process. It's been a LOOOOOOOONG day today. Not to mention a stinkin' hot one too! :(
