I've been using my e830 fully loaded with my usual software for a few days and it seems a bit sluggish.

I have since changed the CPU from auto to 520 which improved it a bit.
I especially notice it when clicking on the Start Menu and going to Programs or Settings.

It gets a little better if I turn off Wisbar Advanced 2 but its still noticable.

Anyone else encounter anything like this?

What's your memory status?

Every pocket pc I've every used seems to take a few seconds to get up to speed when you turn it on to dectect it's flash cards and whatever else. I notice that as I expected but other than that, I think it's fast. A freind of mine who has the old high end axim (x5? 400xscale) used mine for a minute or two and his only comments were on how good the screen was and how fast it was.

How's your video playback with beta player? Is it really jearky? Mine is very good i think. It drops jaws when I show it to people and then the stop asking why I worked so hard to get this thing (living in the US). I would never consider an ipaq 4700 because it only has 64MB of memory, and a touchpad on a pocket pc just seems to be about the worst idea I've ever heard of. I haven't heard of anyone who has one that likes the touchpad. Only people who have actually returned it because of that. Also, I don't think it has a jog dial. For my pocket pc, that's required.

Hey Vector... I was just looking at your upgrade path... it looks similar to mine... and the Toshiba looks like it is also in my future... Hope I enjoy mine as much as you seem to be enjoying yours...

My memory seems to be okay. I haven't installed BetaPlayer yet.
I do think that I have tracked most of my problems back to Wisbar Advanced2.

When ever I would try to bring up the start menu it would seem to lock up and only come back several minutes later. Still struggling to refresh.

At the time I was using the Panther theme and skin. I then changed the theme to the WA Default or WM10 and the problem seemed to go away. I then when back to the Panther skin and still not seeing the problem. Perhaps something go corrupted when I imported the Panther skin the first time.

The Icons for Programs and Settings still seem to have a delay in appearing when I scrolling through them but a Reg Edit that I found out about on Brighthand seemed to fix this. You can see the thread here (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=4d2a72c176d5c33f767bc22e98946a75&threadid=110863&perpage=10&pagenumber=7).

Its near the end. I may actually be able to put my CPU back on auto if all goes well.

I was just over a lakeridgesoftware forums and some other people reported lockups with with cascading menus. The developer is looking into it.

I just did a test with Beta Player .004

160x216 24fps 192Kbit/s B-Frame 2-pass XviD 22Khz Stereo 56Kbit/s MP3
Video smooth - Audio smooth

640x480 24fps 1500Kbit/s 2-pass XviD 44Khz Stereo 128Kbit/s MP3
Video - choppy Audio smooth

I'm willing to bet you'll get better performance using BetaPlayer 0.094. You should give that version a go when you get the chance. :)

Tried 640x480 24fps 1500Kbit/s 2-pass XviD 44Khz Stereo 128Kbit/s MP3
with the Unstable version 0.094.

It seem a bit better but still slightly choppy.

Not bad. You'll want to look at the BetaPlayer Benchmark Summary here (http://blogs.shintak.info/articles/667.aspx) in which you can compare your device's performance with other ones. I've also noticed the e830W is up there too so that may be of interest.

There's also this (http://blogs.shintak.info/articles/969.aspx) BetaPlayer High Performance Benchmark Summary too.

I'm using only software that came with mine, and intill 5 minutes ago I haven't had any problems with mine.

I just went to turn mine on and it would not turn on, I had to turn the power off, and then back on, whihc of course meant I loose all my data. :(

Thanks for the links. I hate to show my ignorance but I'm never sure what I'm looking at when I see the benchmark numbers.

If I'm understanding, the e830 is not as good as the Dell or the HP. But is better than the Loox 720 and Asus 730.

That's about right. Although with time, I'm sure figures will improve across the scale as further optimisations are implemented into the program. But with a higher core processor and a graphics accelerator, I'm sure the X50v will still always be one of the devices at the top of the benchmark readings.
