<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2155' target='_blank'>http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2155</a><br /><br /></div><i>"O2 Asia, the Asian mmO2 subsidiary recently released its latest Windows Mobile product, the Xda IImini (also known as HTC Magician or i-mate JAM). As of today, the HTC Magician is the smallest and lightest Pocket PC Phone Edition but running Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile 2003SE as well as it includes triple-band GSM/GPRS and Bluetooth (while W-LAN isn't supported yet). In addition it features the latest Intel Intel PXA 272 Bulverde CPU with 416MHz."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20041208-O2XDAIIMini.jpg" /><br /><br />Arne at PPCW.Net has just reported that the HTC Magician or i-mate JAM, which we have posted on over the last few weeks, has been introduced as the O2 XDA II Mini in the Asia-Pacific region. He states that it should be available soon and a price has yet to be determined, although I looked at a recent Harvey Norman catalogue in the past week, and it is actually already on sale here in Australia for A$1199. So out of the three brandings of this device, which one do you like? More information on the XDA II Mini can also be found <a href="http://www.myxda.com/product/XdaIImini/template/Product.vm">here</a>.

:) They are selling these on Expansys for £399.00 under the I-mate section. Can't wait . small form factor , no bigger than a Nokia 6630 really !!!!! 8O 8O

The evolution begins !!! I can see the next couple of years to be a very exciting time in new PDA/Phone manufacture .

This is one SLICK device 8O

It's just 1.5cm wider and .5cm longer than my Sony Ericsson t610 8O

It would be my next phone device if was the same price as the SP3i...

The screens is too small, no built in WiFi and not enough RAM for my needs. So this device won't replace my iPAQ 5550.

I'm sooo tempted though.... I may be able to live with a screen that's about 1" smaller than my iPAQ and I could get an SDIO WiFi adapter.. I don't use WiFi THAT much... But I absolutely NEED the 128MB of RAM I have now. No getting around that for now.

Excellent try  Please don't tease me like that

You can get them from www.novicom.com now. Its a T-Mobile version in German. The guys at CompactJam.com has already managed to flash it to English and Novicom will be honouring the warranties of flashed units. 2 year warranty. I have an order on Expansys too they would be getting some units in on Friday (or so they say).

I got mine from Nowicom 10 days ago and at the weekend finally managed to flash it to an English ROM.

I have written a 3 part review of the MDA Compact (aka imate jam, o2 xda ii mini) which can be seen at:

Part 1: http://www.pocketreview.net/default.asp?section=article&amp;id=32&amp;page=1

8O Great revue digger one problem though , its made me put my c500 , sp3i on Ebay   . Oh I gotta have one ... I hope its compatible with Copilot ... Anyone know :?:

there is no reason why copilot wouldn't be compatible with the Jam/Compact if it works on Windows Mobile 2003 SE. I had TomTom v1.5 working on it and that is more than 2 versions old.

Cool :) Now how about an XDA III mini w/ a keyboard that extracts from it on its side in landscspe mode/style! Ultimate slider, and what the OQO could be! :-P

Now thats a communicator.

I've seen shops preparing themselves for the sale of both the XDA II Mini and the i-mate JAM here in Australia. Too many brandings... I want unity to make my life more simple.

very nice, but I think it's not practical for poor students unless the price drops down to about $600, hopefully, $499 with a plan

I've been waiting for this device for quite some time now... I might get an i-mate JAM from expansys but they still don't have it in stock. I don't know when this will hit the Philippine market (I think we got the XDAII kinda late relative to other countries here in asia so this might be the case also with the mini) and to those worried about this thing not having a keypad don't worry it has an intellipad/intellidialer app that sort of acts like t9 keypad/search thingie for contacts respectively. I've been using T-mobile compacts intellipad on my iPAQ for practice hehehe (got it off xda-dev in German though but still useable as there is an english dictionary)

Haha. Standard batteries aren't quite products of nanotech, just yet. Anyway, here's (http://www.myxda.com/product/XdaIImini/template/XdaIIminiProductInfo.vm) a specs page for those interested, which clearly states a 180 hour standby time, and a 4-5 hour talk time.

personally i prefer a small compact product that will give me the posibility to put a bluetooth headset and a fast prossesor. h6315 to the trash, mpx300 will be a .... prefer to don't talk about, xda guys are making a real good job, battery does not look to be the great thing on this unit but sure someone is going to make a new battery stronger and thin, but lets wait for that. i just ordered mine from expansys and my audiovox will go on ebay once this little baby will come. my wife is going to kill me . i'm crazy on pocketpcs. this will be my ..... i had a palmIIIe, casioppeia e125, compaq ipaq 3630, palm tungsteng e, h1910, h1945, h2210, h4155 t610, h6315 (the worst thing that happenned in my life!!!!) and now for more simplicity and faster audiovox ppc 4100. i hope this guys are going to make it faster at expansys  i really want this baby soon. do we live in america and things could happend faster, don't we????????? :?:

1,200mAh according to XDA hope this is enough to last for atleast 12 hrs of 'normal' pda/phone use without charging (this way you'll probably be home or at the office or somewhere with an AC outlet). By 'normal' I mean voice calls, sms, email, web surfing, checking schedules, maybe some games, etc... Would like to see real world battery tests though so for those lucky few who have the i-mate JAM, T-mobile Compact, Qtek S100, or dopod 818 already, what is it like in terms of power consumption?

My understanding is that iMate is going to upgrade this unit sometime in the first half of '05 (but you know how things get delayed, so who knows for sure) by bumping up the memory to 128MB RAM, making it quad-band, adding WiFi, and EDGE.

Along with the JAM's current feature set, these upgrades would make this successor an amazing and very powerful little device!

Now we just have to wait and see...

Yeah. If you're looking for CDMA, something like the i-mate PDA2K EVDO would be the solution. But then there's that compromise you have to make with CDMA and the device size. Oh well... :)

wouldn't mind additional ram and wifi in the future but hopefully the size will remain the same. expansys hk will have it in 10 days... or so they say.

Same here! Size is why I moved over to the WM Smartphone camp last year. I'll be great to have a device not much larger than a WM Smartphone but with a *real* OS on it. :D

What makes CDMA devices bigger than GSM based GPRS devices? Are the modules bigger?

aristoBrat

FWIW, when it comes to the HTC Blue Angel, the CDMA version looks a tad smaller:

4.9" x 2.80" x .075" = GSM (Cingular SX66)
4.9" x 2.75" x .074" = CDMA (Sprint PPC-6601)

Hard to say. At a micro-architectural level, I'd think it would have to do with the components that the company uses. Needless to say, CDMA is a different technology, so the parts that are needed to add that functionality *may* add to the bulk of the device.
