Just some opinions. Getting a little bored with the ole PPC lately and thought that some new software might ignite my interest. I was trying to find a package that included Chess and Checkers and the only thing I could come across was this:

TETRIS Classic Game Pak for Pocket PC

Problem is this costs $29.99 which seems a little steep. It includes a few other games, but nothing I'll get much use out of. You guys got any suggestions on some decent games, preferably something along the lines of chess and checkers.

Also, I might be willing to go as high as $20 for the package above. If anyone knows where they may be selling this a little cheaper, I'd appreciate that information as well.

Thanx,

gregmills

If you want chess and checkers then "The Travel Collection" is a really good package.

Pocket PC Thoughts Store (http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&jid=6E8X4FEXEB2DAE4XA3BFF16B22C1AE9X&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=122472&sectionId=0&catalog=30&topSectionId=-1)

I'm lousy at chess so I couldn't tell you how good the chess engine is but all the games have varying difficulty settings for the computer AI and they also play well in two person mode. It's a got a quality interface and music. 6 games for under $10 is pretty good deal I think.

gregmills, one word.......PERFECT! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning just to see if anyone else has something for me to look at, but I'm pretty certain that this is my game,

You can get some FREEWARE CHESS programs from PocketPCFreewares (http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php).

You can get both Pocket GNU Chess 2004 (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15141) and Pocket Crafty 2004 (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15142) for ONLY $2 a piece from PocketGear.com (http://www.pocketgear.com/index.asp).

I can highly recommend ChessGenius (http://www.chessgenius.com/pocketpc/index.html) as a commercial chess program. Very strong opponent, FREE UPDATES, still in development and only costs ONLY $25.

The BEST BUY is the Travel Collection (http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&jid=6E8X4FEXEB2DAE4XA3BFF16B22C1AE9X&platformId=2&productType=2&productId=122472&sectionId=0&catalog=30&topSectionId=-1) already mentioned in this thread.

I recommend The Travel Collection as well - an absolute bargain for the 6 games and quality on offer. I have it with me at all times.

Just purchased and the install went perfectly (not always a given with some PPC software). Used the PPCT link and thats always a plus. Seems like an excellent piece of software. It's hard to believe it's only $10.

Thanx to all for the advice.

The travel collection is good. That was actually one of my latest purchases. Of course, I think I own almost all available chess games. Pocket Grandmaster (http://www.pocketgrandmaster.com/english/index.html) is pretty good, as well as Kasparov Chessmate (http://www.jamdat.com/JamdatWeb/Catalog/CA/en/game/pocketPC/ProductDetailOverviewView/product-23062) and Chesscapade (http://games.superscape.com/chesscapade/)

I didn't see ChessGenius (http://www.chessgenius.com) in your list nor was PocketFritz 2 mentioned.

:treadmill: You have a long way to go before you have them all!

Unfortunately, the above Omega Checkers game mentions it is a trial version when you install it. The main description page says it is $14.99
