So I just got my X50v yesterday and I am getting acustom to it. This is my first non-IPAQ Pda in ... well ever ... I started with the first 3000 series IPAQ, worked thru the 3900, 5400, 5500, 4100 ...

I am still drawn to the 4700 ... but the size and $250 price difference is holding me back.

Anywho ... Where is Reader??? I know it was upgraded recently, but MS no longer includes it in the OS??

Also ... I see Avantgo in my sync list in Active Sync ... I checked it, and updated my username and password. It syncs a ton of items on connect ... but there is NO Avantgo ICON anywhere?? When I try to install the downloaded 3.3 client ... it says the Integrated Client is already installed ...???

Can anyone comment?

Some units do not package the MS Reader application in the ROM. However, you're not at a total loss. It's still downloadable and can be installed on to your device. Click here (http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp) to download it.

I have an Avantgo icon in my programs folder off the start button. I was able to upgrade to version 3.3 with no problem and the icon is still there.

I don't use the icon though, the default home page has a link to it.

Well, it's worse than you think. Reader in its current incarnation doesn't properly support VGA -- you have to use the SE_VGA or OzVga hacks before it behaves. :|

Reader works fine on my x50v. What kind of problems are you having?

On my e805 with SE, running in "standard" VGA mode (with the large title bar, etc.) and no hacks, the fonts appear too large and the UI controls are misaligned, making them untappable.

Are you telling me you have the same setup and are not experiencing this? I found that the only way to use Reader on the e805 is to go into "true VGA" mode. I'm trying to track down the problem so I can report it to MS more accurately, and any data you can provide would be of help. ;)

I have a Dell x50v. As far as I can tell, there are no vga settings on the device. Maybe it's not running in real vga mode. I think I saw a post about something like that last week but I'm not sure. I'm sure someone else here knows more about it than I do.

All I can say is the screen is much brighter and more clear than on my Dell x3i so I've assumed it's runnin in vga mode.

As long as you're not running a hack, then you're not running in so-called "real VGA" where all the controls are tiny. See this post of mine (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30475) to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Hmm. I'll have to try it again, then. I tried it twice and had given up. :| I'm not the only one that's posted about it, either, so maybe it has to do with which device it's running on...?

I'm not having any problems yet on my Axim x50v. I wish I could have the text a "bit" smaller, but that is just a personal preference.

You can adjust the text in the screen settings. Unless you mean you want a size that is a step between two options. Then I don't know. There might be a hack somewhere to allow more detailed text sizes.

No - I want a size that's smaller than any out there -- corresponding to the smallest 240x320 size. As Raynne implied, the text looks a little "large".

I just reinstalled Reader and simulated my main problem (the tapping) in about 10 seconds. The easiest thing, I think, is to take a bunch of screenshots and write up a frontpage post and see who's experiencing it. ;)

Thanks for your help guys. I'll put up a link when I finish this.

Actually, before I do... can I ask you guys to try something? If you don't mind playing around with your Reader and potentially confusing it? :)

Go to Settings and set the Font Size to be the largest possible. Now, go into an individual ebook, and try popping down the menu by tapping on the title and choosing an option from it (like Settings, to reduce the size again). I think that reliably messes up the tapping on my e805 so that I need to tap further up and to the left on the screen to hit something, even though it doesn't correspond to the menu item. On the smallest setting, it seems to be a bit more reliable.

Nope, no problems on my reader.

OK, thanks. Looks like we have a device-specific problem. I'll do up a frontpage post when I get a chance, and I have some more data to send MS's way.

Sorry for the interruption all, we now resume the original thread. ;)

Thanks, Janak and all who responded. I'll be interested to see the results.
