For those interested, I've found a solution to connect a 20GB laptop IDE hard drive to my 4705. This solution allows me to listen to ALL my music and carry along all my mapopolis maps while on the road.

Need: connect 2.5" laptop IDE hard drive to iPAQ 4705

What to buy:
2.5" IDE hard drive (format as FAT)
Addonics Pocket ExDrive w/ USB interface cable
RATOC CF / USB Host Adapter card for Pocket PC (software version 1.8)

How To:
Load the USB Host Drivers into your 4700/5 using activesync as described in the instructions.
Place the RATOC CF card in your iPAQ
Mount the hard drive in the Pocket ExDrive enclosure
Plug the appropriate connectors on the USIB cable into the drive enclosure and the USB connector on the CF card
Power up the hard drive (via AC, car adapter or external batteries)
Turn on your iPAQ and browse the drive.
That's it.

Costs:
Hard Drive - $25
Pocket ExDrive - $59
USB Host Card - $139

Comments:
If you're looking to carry along large amounts of data or share large sets of files with a desktop via USB, this solution is simple and reliable. If your looking for an ultraportable iPOD type device, this is not the solution for you. There are cables and a need for power for the HDD. I use this solution to listen to my music at my desk at work, while driving in the car and as a backup of my home music libarary. I also use this solution as a means of taking along large amounts of data while on vacation. These types of data include Mapopolis maps, digicam off-loads, PPC backups and apps.

Hope this helps someone.

Yes, it works just fine.

I connected my Lexar 256mb JumpDrive to it and it sees it just like a CF card.
