So, what cases for the X50/X50v have folks spotted/used.

What are your recommendations?

I don't use a case -- I figure, why would I want to? It's easy enough to tote the X50v around in my pants pocket, and when I get my Boxwave screen protector, I'll even pay less attention to the surface scrapes and bumps the unit might receive.

That said, you know that there is a softside case that comes standard with the X50v. If I really want to protect the unit -- say, if I'm traveling somewhere and I won't be carrying the X50v in my pocket -- then I'll use what came with the X50v out-of-the-box.

Do you feel compelled to store your X50v in a case? Having never had one, maybe I don't know what I'm missing. To me, it's just an added expense....and bulk....

Yes. I like the have the extra protection of a case. I carry my Pocket PCs on my hip and like to use the ultraclip system. At the moment I like leather cases with magnetic closures, though I have used aluminium add-on 'flip-lids' before.

I have seen the aluminum (aluminium) one advertised on this site I believe. Don't recall which company off hand. The Sena and Vaja models seem to be 'coming soon'. I'm waiting for the Sena one myself, unless Vaja makes an i-volution case for it. I'd consider that. www.aximcases.com is a decent place to find out what is available.

I ordered the RHinoskin Aluminum case with my x50v. I like the hardsheel cases as I work in a potentially hazardous to electronics field. I keep the unit in my breast shirt pocket, and I have been kicked more than once. The Aluminum case protects the unit nicely, doesn't add too much size to it, and has slots for SD cards.

The only criticism I have of the Rhinoskin I got with the x50v is that they seem to have molded a plastic portion over the back top instead of going all aluminum.

I have an aluminum RhinoSkin and a Belkin Executive. They are both rather small yet provide great protection. My rhinoSKin already saved me once.... http://www.purepockets.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=890&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

Just ordered a metal case from RhinoSkin, (Saunders.) I'm not a big fan of metal cases, but I figure that this will work until Sena comes out with their case. (As I recall, it is still listed as "coming soon" on their website.) Haven't heard of anything from Vaja, Covertec, EB, or Proporta yet, either...

I'm a fan of the Vaja Universal cases. (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23618&start=0) You have to take your device out of the case to use it, but I prefer that. Plus, you can usually use the same case over several model upgrades, which kinda spreads the cost out a bit.

I can see why you like it. Personally I don't want to take my device out the the case and would prefer a custom case each time. I plan to buy a new PPC every 2 years or so, so it's not too bad cost-wise.

:) Great news from Krusell, Sweden! They announced a leather case for Dell Axim X50 and X50v. This case will be available mid/late December. You can preorder this case directly from us at:

Ah - nice. I think that's worth sharing. :D

Can you tell us what cut-outs there are? Does this include the CF and SD slots? Personally I like these covered for protection, especially as I won't be using any protruding CF or SD cards.

OK, it's front-paged. :D

Any other X50/X50v cases out in the woodwork I should know about before I buy this one?

I want a X50v case ASAP. I am carrying it in my pocket at the moment and am keen to get it back on myhip where it belongs.

Another one to consider:

I just pre-ordered the X50 case on www.senacases.com. Won't start shipping until Dec 29 :(

For those of you who want a case that fits the x50 with an extended battery, the Krusell Horizontal Leather Holster (http://www.extremepda.com/page/XPDA/PROD/DELLAXIMX50VACC/KRUSHORZAXIMX50V) can hold it.

Thanks for that Upplepop. I personally would like a case that stays on the X50, rather than a case I put the X50 into, but it is a good solution if you like using your unit 'naked'.

I guess there's no word from InnoPocket on a titanium hardcase for the x50v?? I had an aluminum case for my 2215 that's pretty dented and came close to damaging the iPAQ a couple of times. In the Ti case... the case has been scratched up a bit but no dents and I don't have to worry about the electronics inside.

That's 99.9% of my hold up on ordering the x50v.... a Ti case.
