I recently purchased an iPAQ 4705, which I'm very happy with, except that I'm having trouble finding WM2003SE equivalents for all my 'must have' apps.

I was using PIEplus (http://www.reensoft.com/PIEPlus/) on my iPAQ 3970 and was quite happy with it. PIEplus does not seem to be compatible with WM2003SE, so I'm looking for a WM2003SE-compatible equivalent. I've poked around a few places and was surprised that I was having trouble finding one.

The main feature I'm after is the ability to automatically scale sites to fit the PPC.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jasmine

Have you tried the built-in capabilities of WM2003SE in PIE under the View>Layout options?

I tried the built-in layout options the other day and it didn't really display very well on the particular site I was looking at. However, I just tried it again with a few other sites and it looks much better.

I guess I was just unlucky with the site I tried the other day.

Thanks,

Jasmine

I'm fond of MultiIE. It features fit-to-screen options as well as a lot of other features.

Thanks for the advice. I'll download a trial of Multi IE and give it a go.

I was really hoping to be able to use PIEplus because I've already purchased it, but looks like I might need to move to MultiIE.

Cheers,

Well, I'm quite sure that PIEPlus will eventually come out with an upgraded version for WM2003SE (as will NetFront), but from what I've heard, the PIE engine has been substantially rebuilt for WM2003SE so upgrading is not a trivial task.

FWIW, I'm also trialing MultiIE right now and I think it's fantastic, especially when combined with SE_VGA (for the true VGA mode). For the first time, my PPC (also an hx4705) actually feels like desktop replacement when surfing the web.

I exchanged emails with the developer of PIEPlus about a month ago.

He told me that he was working on an upgrade, but that PIEPlus was not compatible with the hx4700.

Yup. I learned that the hard way a few days ago. It's a different kind of imcompatibility from NetFront. At least with NetFront, it will run, just not very well. With PIEPlus, it just simply won't run.

I'm going to milk every bit of the 15 day trial period of MultiIE. Maybe, just maybe, a new version of something else appears by then. If not, MultiIE will get my money for sure.

It really depends on the site itself. Some sites work fine when scaled... while some don't.

NetFront and Thunderhawk are favourites among many Pocket PC users for its scaling ability. You can always download a trial version of these applications from the Handango Store (http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformHome.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2).

Just found out that PIEplus v1.3 beta 1 (http://www.reensoft.com/PIEPlus/) has been released. This version is meant to be compatible with WM2003SE.

I just downloaded it. It seems that it needs to be installed to main memory. I tried installling to a memory card and to the iPAQ File Store, and it didn't work in either of those locations.

Although he told me it would not work with VGA, v 1.2 is working (mostly) fine with my Axim x50v AFTER applying the Hi-Res-Aware hack with Tweaks2k2. The only caveat is that the PiePlus icon is kinda chopped of at the bottom - not a problem, really.

How do I get the v1.3 beta? I've purchased PiePlus already.

I think that you will find that it will not work even installed in main memory, as if you read posts before yours, they say that PIEplus will not work on the HX4705 full stop.

You will probably have to find another alternative.

PIEplus 1.2 isn't compatible with the hx4705, but the newly released PIEplus 1.3 beta is. I emailed ReenSoft about this issue a couple of weeks ago. At the time they said they were working on a version that would be compatible with WM2003SE devices. Then last week I received an email from them saying that PIEplus 1.3 beta had just been released and that it would support WM2003SE devices. Yay!

I've had it installed for a couple of days and it seems to be working fine! :)
