Here's a question to make you shudder.

I am programming replacement systems for agricultural trials, with the original programs written in GW-BASIC (in the '80s) and running on MS-DOS.

Unfortunately there are more teams needing replacement programs than I can deal with before their ancient Husky units fall over.

The two new handhelds we're choosing between run CE.Net 4.2 and Pocket PC 2003.

Has anyone out there any idea/experience of emulators available for these platforms that would allow the existing GW-BASIC programs to run while the new solutions are coded in VB.Net?

If there are any gluttons for punnishment out there already running any emulators who'd like to try it out and let me know if GW-BASIC will run on their emulator (and thereby earn my eternal gratitude!), it can be downloaded from:

Many thanks for any suggestions/help.

One solution to your problem is Pocket DOS (http://www.pocketdos.com/).

Yes, GW-Basic works with Pocket DOS and so does your program.

It took me a little too long to figure out how to load the program at the basic prompt, it's been too long.

I tested this on a Toshiba e805 running WM2003 SE and a registered version of PocketDOS 1.091.

Go over to PocketDOS, buy it, and enjoy your "classic" program!

There's dosbox as well but I don't know how well it works but it's free.

It's free, but just looking at the information about it makes it look like it's worth every penny! Give me an install program any day!
