I usually go running or biking on the weekends, as well as using work's gym. I'd like to pick up headphones & use my HP Ipaq 4150 as a media player. I stopped by Best Buy and wasn't sure what would stay on when jogging.
I saw this "W.EAR" line of headphones, held on via individual ear clips, from SONY, as well as a earplug setup sold by Nike that uses a U-shaped back-of-the-head plastic device to keep the plugs in your ears.
Any suggestions from people who have used these or other headphones/earplugs? I'd like to use the same thing during my morning commute via heavy/light rail and subway.
Thanks!

Some people don't care for 'in ear' style headphones, but I'm quite pleased with my Sony MDR-EX51LP buds. I use them with my laptop, Dell DJ, iPod and iPaq 4155. (yes, I'm a geek.) They were cheap (~$30 at Best Buy) have decent sound quality and stay in place better than any other external type phones I've tried. The only problem I've had is that bass response depends on having the transducers inserted properly in your ear canals. At the end of a good workout the sweat tends to make them harder to keep seated.
I don't jog but I'm at the gym often and use life fitness machines and so on. I presently use in-ear as well but opted for one with a longer cord so it doesn't pull as often. Most are the same but I found a Sony model which escapes me that did the trick.
I tried the Virgin in-ear with external ear clip wire and found the sound faint and the quality very very poor.

Of the ear/headphones I have, the two I use when exercising are my Sony MDRE888LP Fontopia Earphones, as well as my Sony MDRG74SL Street Style Headphones. Both work very well IMO. The MDRE888LP come with a compact case which allows you to store your earphones, while the MDRG74SL allows you to fold it into a compact shape for easy storage.
I'd recommend some other headphones but those are more for DJ work.

Darius has expensive taste :P
If you're serious about jogging, you would need a pair of light earbuds that fit comfortably and don't come loose as you run. They're better than cans coz they're smaller, lighter and definitely more hygenic when you think about the amount of sweat that soaks into an earpad/headband
Earbuds work well for most people - however a small minority just can't get them to fit right and they consistently fall out as you're jogging.
The Sony EX51SL's are a cheaper version of the 71SL's and worth a go - they are very comfortable and have reasonable sound. The only drawback is they do block some outside noise so you have to be extra careful not to have the music too loud when you cross a road
But you're a headphone enthusiast though, I'd recommend using whatever pair you can scrounge around in the meantime - you must have a pair attached to a portable CD player somewhere rite?

Actually, I just realised that the ones I discussed were a little pricey. I've always been an audiophile and demand excellent quality when it comes to audio.
There are always cheaper sets that can be bought though - if you're willing to get lower sound quality. Some people just can't tell the difference in poor and good audio quality so this doesn't place such a heavy burden on the wallet. I envy those people. :D

Don't spend too much - I go through a set every three months or so, just normal wear and tear from gym/cycling/general use in the car.
I have found mid-range Sony budz OK - the latest ones I got have a small volume slider where the cable forks, this is very useful (sorry don't have model no). On the Pocket Player app I use, one can EQ but still I find that they all lack in bottom end, only when you puch them into your ears do you hear what you are missing.

Sony EX-71SL.
I have it and its one of the best fontopias available. Its an in ear canal earphones which means it wont fall out easily. However during the first few days because the wire keeps hitting your body, the noise vibration can be pretty loud probably due to the position of the phones in the canal. However as time goes on, this hardly happens anymore.
The sound is pretty good and extremely comfortable.

I am using this pair from Sony. Very cheap, stay in place very well while running, light, comfortable and decent sound quality:

I use to wear ear buds and the kind that wrap around the back of your ear to train and run a marathon. I had problems with both. After running for a few hours my ears would get soar.
What I found worked was the simple pair of regular “headphones”. The kind with a thin band that goes over you head from ear to ear. I usually wear a hat when I’m running so I would put them over that and wouldn’t even feel them. They were super light and gave me enough “sound” for music, but I could also hear if somebody was about to run me off the sidewalk with one of those dam scooters the kids ride these days.
Hope this helps
