Ok, I just got this X50v yesterday. Good point and bad points, it has both. The size is not as big as I thought it would be. (I am switching from an HP 3715) Screen is great. Battery life is horrid (compared to the 3715, but there's also a large mHz difference and I understand that)

My main problem is I can not get this bad boy to hook up with my linksys wifi system at home. The HP system has has it beat as far as ease of setup (at least for me being the non wifi genius that i am  ) Even after reading the dell manual I am confused... :(

My home network is WEP 64 encrypted and on the HP I just put in the alphanumeric Key that the Linksys page generated for me and I was up and running. On the Dell this appears to be a much more indepth process and I am getting lockups and freezes as I go along.

Has anyone quickly easily and painlessly gotten one of these new x50's to talk at home? If so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not currently using WEP, but I would expect it to be set via the Odyssey Client:

Start>Settings>Connections>Odyssey Client.

It discusses settings for WEP within the help text.

There's no need to set up the Odyssey Client for simple WEP stuff - once you turn on WiFi, you should see a list of networks that are available appear - you just select the SSID of your network, state if it's Work or The Internet, then it'll ask you for a WEP key - at which point you enter the hex key for WEP, and away you go. I connected to my access point in under a minute.

I'll second what Rob Borek wrote. I followed exactly the same process he wrote, and I connected to my WEP-secured network effortlessly. Maybe double-check (or triple-check) that you're not mistaking one of the characters in your encryption key...you know, entering an O for 0 or 1 for I or something simple like that.

Let me quickly re-post my patented WEP entering process. Go to your APs management software. Copy (Ctrl c) the hex key. Get the whole thing. Many Key windows don't show all the characters at one time, may need to scroll. 128b Key is 26 characters. Paste that into an Outlook Note (or a txt file). Sync Notes (or copy the txt file to the PPC).

Turn on WiFi on the PPC. When it asks for the WEP key copy it from the note or txt file and paste it into the block. You can use Ctrl c and Ctrl v in case the tap and hold menu doesn't work for you.

I've yet to mis-type a Key using that method ;) Use it for laptops too.
