Hi I'm Sunny !!

I've 256 mb sd card and 2215 pda.
I want to watch movies on my handheld. But any movie(say iceage) is about 700mb. I just don't have enough money to shell out $150 on those big capacity cf cards.
I TRIED TO encode them using windows media encoder but it gives me an error> it gives me same error when i try to encode .dat files.
what encoders do u ppl use ??
also is it possible that i just drap-an-drop a .dat file and activesync automatically convert that file to wmv ?? :?:

Thanks

What type of file is a .dat file? Most of my movies are .avi

For Windows Media Encoder, make sure you got the codecs for the file installed.
(IE- Make sure that your Windows Media Player on the desktop can actually play the file)

I'm not sure where you're getting .dat files from - when you rip a DVD, you end up with VOB files, which are really just MPEG2 files. Since it sounds like you're new at this, I'd really reccomend buying software to help you do this - ActiveSync will not transcode video files for you.

Try these:

.dat format is the format used in all vcd(not dvds).
In reality they are in .avi format.

but i decode them in 'virtual dub' i get an error message even i have the original vcd(of iceage)

Don't even bother with Windows Media Player, get Beta Player and Pocket Divx Encoder. The Pocket Divx Encoder is faster then Windows Encoder and divx movies play better in Beta Player then WMV files in Media Player.

Here are the links:

I was sceptical at first, but now love both programs. Most movies will be under 200MB after using Divx Encoder, and they look great.

YMMV. PDE pukes all over itself on my system, and when it DID actually encode a movie, the sync was off. I prefer wmv format and get surprisingly good quality videos that weigh in at 60MB for an hour of video.

Yeah, it does on mine at work too. But it works at home. Not sure what is making it not work on some systems. But there is a setting for syncing sound and video and other options that make the movies look better. Once you get that figured out, it works great.

Moved to the Multimedia forum since that's what it's about. ;-)
