Does anyone know of any subnetting software available for the pocket pc? I'm having trouble learn how to subnet/supernet and I was hoping that I might a program that would help. For example you enter the network address of 193.32.40.0 and figure out the address ranges when adding 30 subnets...

Anyone?

Disclaimer: I haven't tried any of these.

Newton IP Calcualtor (http://www.giftxport.com/newton/Newt-IPCalc.html) (requires vb runtimes)

SWM IP Calculator (http://www.softwaremaker.net/FreewareApps.asp#fw_pda_swmipcalc) (requires .NET)

(I think I might have used the Newton IP Calculator at one point, but I can't be sure.)

in my experience, Newton IP Calculator works reasonably well despite my opposition to the requirement of some software to install other software before that software will run. I've considered Pocket IP in the past and I'm not against trying it again, especially considering it's the only one of the three listed here that doesn't require the pre-installation (in the case of some OS versions) of another software package.

Subnetting is really not that hard to learn... in fact in most cases you could do it in your head. Relying on a device to give you the information will never allow you to learn it.

If you are just learning and plan to get certification... the exams will not allow you to bring in your pocketpc... its better just to learn it unless you are using it to check your calculations.

vxUtil from www.cam.com has a calculator in it for free. Doesn't do a lot but will get you going. I agree with Ripper though. If you need to learn it for certification, you need to learn it. If you need to use once every 6 mos, you need to understand what you are doing, but a calc is invaluable.
