sorry ladies and gents, i know this has been done to death (and i've done my research i promise) but i wanted to know what people really thought about available TV/Home theatre software remotes on the market for PPC's? is griffin's total remote the only viable option worth it's salt? do these ALL require an hardware transmitter to work well? if there is more than one to choose from - which do we think is best?
thanks so much in advance.

In most cases, you won't require a hardware transmitter as some PPC's already have CIR implemented. You may want to look at VITO Remote. (http://www.vitotechnology.com/en/products/remote.html)
Now if you're talking about wireless (e.g. Wi-Fi or BT) enabled home theatre systems, thats another thing. Which were you referring to?

no i just use a standard IR controlled HT. i have a sony HDTV, a sony DVD, and a sony reciever (pretty simple comparatively). i downloaded the trial of griffin's total remote but i can only get it to work from about 3-4 feet from the device (weak!). i assume if you buy the package the transmitter will help (they say that works at 100'). i have a question though - will that conflict with the fact that the IR port on the 4150 i have is on the bottom? or will the griffiin device that plugs into the top just "take over"?
i'll look into VITO right now.
i'm currently using a harmony remote but i'd love to find yet another use for my 4155 :)

ps i also have a scientific atlanta HD PVR (cable box) that i need to be able to control - so flexibility is key.

from what i can tell after a few minutes use w/ each the griffin remote seems a lot slicker - and has built in codes for a TON of devices (all of mine). but the range is total poo w/o the transmitter - 3 feet.

We were at some friends house for Halloween and he just bought one of these. Very cool. Granted, it's not pocket pc software, but the 'cool factor' is definitely there. Retail is $249 but can be purchased as low as $151.

Look into pdawin's tv remote (http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html) It is a really nice piece of sofrware and the best thing about it is you can read the philips pronto remote skins! Which means you can get some really nice looking tv remote skins that will look awesome, but function even better. Check it out, just my 2 cents.
