Malaysian technology enthusiasts and industry players alike were baffled by the Customs Department's decision to impose a 10% sales tax on handheld computers with wireless connectivity, saying it would not only be a blow against the market but also against the Government's plan to increase the people's access to ICT.

Maybe they want to encourage a local tech market, and see wireless PDA's as a growth area where they can grow their own local industries and then make money of an export market.

Its actually an encouraging vote for the future of PDA's.

Whew. When I first say that headline, I thought Kerry must have won the US election.

(To reduce the chance of my post being deleted) It would be too bad if taxing authorities can't find a better way to apply tax than to tax the raw capability of the device rather than tax the particular use of that capability. This would be like the cassette tape tax/"fee".
