View Full Version : Opinions/Comments on Wisbar? (I am considering it)

I am considering moving to Wisbar as a launcher, etc. Today I use SPB Plus for my launcher but I don't use any of the other features and I have heard that it is memory intensive. Wisbar appears to offer a lot of customization capabilities but my last experience with Wisbar was about 3 years ago.
What can it do? Will it help me reduce memory and make better use of real estate on my Today screen?

I really like Wisbar - I even purchased WA2. But you can still get ver. 1 for free if you want to try it. 2 is faster and has more options/skinning.
I like cascading menus. A lot. It lets me have category folders "Applications", "Utilities", "Games", etc. Then I put the relevant icons into the folders. I keep the tree in Built-In-Storage, though you can just have it turn your normal programs folder into a cascading menu I think. But the way I do it matches the way I organize my start menu on my desktop, so I like it.
I also like the stuff it lets you add to the top bar (I always make a custom button for the backlight), and the skinning.
For me, at least, even the commercial version is definitely worth it.

Personally, I think it's great. Although are you referring to the old WisBar, or the new revamped version by Lakeridge Software? (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/)
You will find that being able to skin your navigation and command bars is always nice eye candy to have on your Pocket PC. In addition, you will find that it now has a cascading menu function if you absolutely detest the current program launcher included in the Pocket PC OS. Alongside that, you have a great task manager, as well as a very handy battery and memory bubble interface integrated in the navigation bar. WisBar Advance 2.x goes the one-step further in providing additional enhancements (e.g. sound effects, etc.). However, the feature list is simply too rich to list here, so the best option may be to have a look at it yourself at the developer's website which I have linked below.
Sometimes, I like to have WisBar Advance around as an alternative to the normal UI. It really depends on the day I'm having. :P
Finally, this thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33507) may give you more insight into what it can offer.
If you're interested in WisBar Advance (both 1.x and/or 2.x), click here. (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/)

Thanks, Guys. I have downloaded the trail and will install on my new 4700 which will arrive today.
Any recommendations on "clean" skins? I like cleaner, uncluttered skins and themes so it is easier to read my Today screen.

You can have a look at the Lakeridge Wisbar Advance 2.x Skins forum. (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=032b670ff2c3828b21c30709c64c390b) Alternatively, Juni makes a multitude of skins both for WA1 and WA2 here. (http://www.kolumbus.fi/anders.ruohio/skinz.html) There are others out there too. In fact, they're easy to make yourself too - if you have the time and passion for it. ;)
