The subject says it all.

Is it possible to assign a hardware button to open a "NEW" PhatPad note instead of just opening PhatPad. When I try to assign a function to a hardware button, all I can see in the list are pre-defined programs and actions.

I have PhatPad installed and I would like to use a hardware button to open a "new" note in phatpad. Is that possible?

VITO ButtonMapper (http://www.vitotechnology.com/en/products/buttonmapper.html) may be of interest to you, as this feature may do what you want it to do:

ButtonMapper can handle button settings for each program separately, creating thus "context-dependent" assignments.
For example, as a default setting for all applications you can use Record button for starting sound recording (VITO SoundExplorer, Records, etc); but for e-book applications you can set this button to turn over the pages (single press for scroll down, press-n-hold for scroll up).

If in doubt, there's always a trial version to see if it works. ;)
