Just curious.

What is faster SD or CF cards?

Which one should be used to load programs in? Date?

Thanks all

Unfortunately, there are too many variables to give you an easy answer on the subject. :( Not only are there different speed CF and SD media, different Pocket PCs score differently on "high-speed" media.

Are you unhappy with your current setup? I find that my non-high-speed SD media gives me acceptable performance.

I have an Ipaq 3955 and may order a Dell x50v in next couple of weeks.

Having had numerous Pc's for over 19 years, I am always looking for a faster setup.

I am curious which setup will give me the fastest setup; setting up a program in CF or SC. That is my angle on my request to this forum.

Thanks all for the courtesy of your replys.

What would be your main need for the memory card?

Would you simply use it to install programs and store documents, or is it a more media-based solution for MP3s and video files?

I tape portions of meetings for future reference, using the internal tape recorder.

I bring documents for reference. And I love my own music when I travel/ fly. And I have some family pictures installed.

I mainly use word & excel in my work, Wirth money for PPC for my expence account.

Thanks

P.S. Go sox .... good night all javascript:emoticon('')

In theory, for what you require, any card should do you fine. It doesn't necessarily have to be a high-speed one either. If you were to purchase an X50 and you had the choice between an SD or a CF, I would probably go for the SD, which leaves your CF open for any add-ons you may get for your device. CF add-ons are still cheaper than SD add-ons these days, so you may want to take that into consideration.

In looking at other comments, there is a way to get faster speed from your SC card. Am I right.

And that does make a difference. I presume.

Attaining a faster speed from an SD card only really comes in the form of acquiring a faster card in the first place. If you shop around, you will find that the speed of SD cards vary a great deal. However, don't forget that for the purposes of reading/writing, there is also a speed restriction imposed on the devices that use them.

You will find that while the idea of a fast SD card is nice, you can usually get away with a standard speed SD card and it should still serve you fine. I have a non-high-speed SD card and it serves me very well. I use it for a plethora of purposes: music, videos, accessing documents, installing programs, and so on...and I find there's really nothing to complain about. :)
