View Full Version : Ladies...I found a good gadget holding purse!

I know how hard it is to find something that is girly yet still functional enough to hold all your gadgetry when you're away from the house. At all times, I have to have my Pocket PC, my cell phone, a pair of earbuds, my wallet, keys, a small notebook, a pen/pencil/stylus, and assorted small sundries like a compact and lipstick.

I recently got a little Nine West bag that holds everything, just barely, but is nice enough for job interviews, dates, etc...it's a mock alligator skin, very plain but very classic. But seriously, it just barely holds all that stuff, and I don't want to ruin it by stuffing it full every day and submitting it to the rough and tumble of my daily routine.

So last night I was taking advantage of a great sale at Old Navy, where everything that ended in .99 was half off, even clearance! I got THE PERFECT BAG for 1.99. Seriously. I got it because it was cute, small, and cheap, but like my other favorite bag, which happens to be an Old Navy bag, it is deceptively small. It holds my Pocket PC, Targus keyboard, wallet, keys, cell phone, notebook, pen, makeup, and will nicely fit my iPod when I get it for Christmas. :) And it's all in this little unassuming shoulder bag that fits perfectly under my arm. 2 dollars!! They have them in black, khaki, a pinkish color, and green (from what I saw at my store). I highly suggest checking it out!

(No, of course, I don't work at Old Navy but I am so amazed by this bag that I want to share it with all the tech-minded ladies...a couple friends of mine already went out and bought one.)

This is what it looks like, if you're interested. (http://www.oldnavy.com/asp/Product.asp?wdid=9020050&wpid=250340)

Cool - glad you found your ideal purse. I like ones with more pockets myself - but it's interesting that you're posting this now, as I've been making another search in my neverending quest for the perfect purse.

I normally like lots of pockets myself...this one has a decent amount, for being so small. The outer pocket is exactly perfect for my cell phone, and there's a huge inner zipper pocket as well that is great to catch little stuff. My messenger bag, which I am trying to break myself of carrying everywhere, has a metric ton of pockets and I love it.

The quest IS neverending...I wonder if we'll ever find our ideal. But hey, for 2 bucks, I couldn't pass this up, and it turned out great.

Let me know if you find anything good in your search!

Depends. If you don't need to carry makeup or a camera, and are willing to put velcro on your PDA, Lodis has one or two things that would be very nice.

I've given up on trying to find a purse to carry all my gadgets. I just have a small briefcase, the portfolio kind, that I carry around in addition to a small purse for personal items.

Well, one of the Gadgeteers (http://www.the-gadgeteer.com) found their ideal one, but I'm not paying 4 figures for a purse. ;)

Pockets seem to be a central issue here...ever considered a "Brad-promoted" SCOTTeVest?

The SCOTTeVests are cool, that much cannot be denied, but they're just not girly enough for me, to be honest. I might like the geeky toys, but I still want to look feminine while carrying them. There just aren't really any bags/apparel/etc. out there dedicated to the plugged-in girly girl. (The Coach PDA case just doesn't really count.) The one the Gadgeteers had custom made was great, but 4 figures is just not plausible for normal people. We're all too busy buying new Pocket PCs!!

BTW - if there are any men looking for "man bags" reading this thread - www.ebags.com has a bunch of jeep-labeled bags that are in NO way girly (ie, a bit too butch for me to want to use one!) that seem pretty cool pocket-wise.

I wonder if the SCOTTeVEST people would be interested in design suggestions for making an ePurse?

I don't know if Brad would get excited about that!

But let's hope, for the ladies, that SCOTTeVEST read this thread and consider an ePurse as a potential product. 8)

Try contacting Scott. I'm sure he's always looking for new ideas. :)

I just realised that, based on the topic of this thread, I doubt any "man" would have clicked this thread in the first place.

So no odd looks at the masculinity of Janak or myself!

I would happily apply to be on that testing committee!

I have a better excuse than you - I noticed The Gadgeteer review a few days ago and was curious if it was mentioned here. It certainly fills the "high-end" niche of gadget bags. :P Perhaps the "very high-end".

I daresay my new bag is on the other end of that spectrum. :) I much prefer single digit prices.

I'd love an ePurse. Even before I got addicted to gadgets, I never seemed to be able to find the right purse....maybe because I carry so much with me. I did some more google searches after I saw this thread, and found www.leathergoodsconnection.com which has ready-made and custom leather bags. There's a lot to look at on the site, so I need to give it some thought, but there are some definite possibilities there. :)

And when you are travelling, you are going to use a bigger travelling bag to put the purse with the case in ? :)

And when you are travelling, you are going to use a bigger travelling bag to put the purse with the case in ? :)
;) Perhaps! But unlikely.

The main thing is that I want to be able to carry the PDA, my wallet, a digital camera, perhaps some makeup, my keys, etc. I can't put all that in the PDA case. And I don't want to put a PDA case-less into a purse where it can get scratched by my keys..

So that's why the PDA case in the purse. ;)

Depending on the case, I won't put my keys in the same pocket as my iPaq even with a case. Big, nasty scratch on my titanium case (the saviour!). It went away with time, though.

Well, I'm not carrying more than one purse. :P

That's part of what I'm looking for in an ideal purse - a separate key pocket.

Here's another nice looking man-bag... too big for what I want:

 I beg to differ. I'd rather submit to Brad's SCOTTeVESTs.

Actually Brad, if you read this; I've always wondered...don't your copious amount of pockets weigh you down when you put something in each pocket? :?

Not quite the pocket organization I want, but...
http://www.ebags.com/dopp/deluxe_organizer_tote_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=1061

Some non-girly ones:

No interior view...

http://www.irvs.com/image.php/itemno/PW-20180/bcr//
http://www.irvs.com/image.php/itemno/PW-20182/bcr//

Neat, but too big for what I want...May consider it for traveling though:
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/bicentennial_travel_shoulder_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15247

Possible... Might be a pocket short.
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/bicentennial_travel_organizer/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15245
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/guide_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=7943

Two wide for me (:(), but otherwise looks great:
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/bicentennial_guide_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15248

Oooh - this could be a good day-to-day laptop bag if it's padded enough:
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/bicentennial_courier_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15249

Computer backpack:
http://www.ebags.com/lewis_n_clark/bicentennial_collection_computer_backpack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=20079

But now I'm getting OT as these last two don't fill the "gadget purse" gap.

Maybe I just need to get out my sewing machine... and... er... learn to sew.

Darius Wey

Actually, those last two look really nice, but indeed, they don't conform to the topic of "gadget purse (well...bag, for the guys)". ;)

The IRVS are nice and black - I quite fancy them.

If you're looking for some nice bags, Crumpler (http://www.crumpler.com.au/) (Australian-based) make a good range, and you will love their site. - Have your speakers turned up! :P

EDIT: And you MUST click that red push button in the bottom right of their site! :D Multiple clicks give you a...err...good reward. ;) And pull the chain to clean up the mess. :silly: But all that aside, the main point is to look at their bags.

SECOND EDIT: This site (http://www.crumplerusa.com/) is for those in the US. However, I still prefer the Australian site for all the flashy animations, and the rather laid-back music. :P
