I got my HP 6315 straight from a Tmobile store in Texas on 9/16 with new conctract with. Im at school in California now so cant go to the store itself. But I think I may need to exchange it now. Some of my problems include: constant lockups, unit will often not wake up for alarms or phone calls, often wont wake up even if i press the pwer button, horrible reception (although that might have to do with the Tmobile service here at stanford), and some other msc problems.
Can I just call Tmobile customer care and request a unit exchange without hassle, or will I veed to talk in an angry customer voice. Also, anyone acutally experience an improvement in the areas I mentioned after exchange? In other words, is it even worth it?
The biggest problem is the reception. I hardly ever get service anywhere, is there anything that can be done about that?

If you can update your roaming list, I would do that. That should help with the reception...
However, I would call T-mo and give them your story and ask for help. Where in California are you? There are some good T-Mo coverage areas around LA and the Bay Area from what I remember. If you can't get a signal there, then you've probably got a PRL (preferred roaming list) problem because you bought it in TX.
If after updating the PRL, you still have reception issues, you may want to consider a different carrier. Verizon has good reception, but you'd have to switch to the i700 which is a CDMA phone.
As far as the performance is concerned, you need to make sure that you have Check Notifications from Scarey Bear Software installed. If you have a Notification Database problem, that will help a great help improving your device's performance.
I hope that helps! Good luck with this. Post back after you talk to T-Mo and let us know how things go for you.

That's pretty much the story with that device. An exchange won't help; it will have the same problems. My girlfriend just took one back after a couple weeks of struggling with it constantly (and she's not a PPC-PE newbie at all). All the boards that deal with that device are full of complaints like yours.

Just wanted to let anyone who cares knows about what happened with the exchange. I originally purchases the unit on September 19 and had numerous problems including: horrible reception and instability
I had the unit exchanged through Tmobile, who were pretty nice about it, and since had no major issues. Even the reception is better. In my dorm room where I previously had no service, I get one or two bars. Plus, one or two bars on this phone seems like is clearer than one or two bars on the first unit.
Overall I am happy with the unit and can see potential in it as an all in one device. I have yet to set up wirelss (waiting for my network to add the mac address). I'll post problems wiht that if they occur.
Also, you may want to see my post in the software forums about, software compatibility. When I first got the unit it was very stable, but adding some different software seems to of decreased the stability.
