I'll bet you a shiny dollar that you won't be able to fling a cat at the upcoming CES without hitting a VoIP vendor. Not that I have anything against cats, mind you. At least, not much. Anyway, this is a NEW softphone client for the Pocket PC platform that can apparently do a lot and uses "leveraging" to find and use WiFi, VOIP, UMTS and EV-Dx VoIP networks. Aside from the fact that their <a href="http://www.voipmobility.com">new (Flash) site </a>seems to equate usage of their softphone with some kind of divine rapture (complete with glowy white lights), this actually looks like it might have some interesting features. What do you think?

OK forgive this dumb question. I've just gotten into this VoIp thing with my home computer and Tablet PC. I have a Pocket PC phone so instead of using the normal phone function (and spend money using minutes) I could use the Soft Phone and save money right? Is there any issue with my Pocket PC being a phone already? In other words would there be any conflict?

Istanbul is also slated to support point-to-point video using "new high-quality Windows codecs," said sources. CRN has previously reported that Istanbul will support RingCam, a prototype pivoting conference-room camera. RingCam is geared to put faces with the voices in Web conferencing scenarios.

Sources close to the company said to think of Istanbul as the latest-and-greatest Microsoft Messenger instant messaging, but with VoIP support built in.

And again on the topic of VoIP, Microsoft seems keen on launching the beta version of their IM client with VoIP support, code-named "Istanbul". It appears that VoIP has really become a topic of discussion over the past few days. ;)
