It's definitely one of the more interesting mods out there.

However, if you have a PPC case that stores SD cards, this concept design becomes somewhat pointless, although it does have its merits.

EDIT: One other thing - if you rely on using your Pocket PC on a flat surface, this little holder would tilt your device on an angle wouldn't it?

I'll tell you what though, I sure like that "Reward for Return!" sticker. And I'm being serious...it puts in that added incentive for people to return lost devices.

Nice idea and looks kinda cool, but I wouldn't think anyone who uses a case for their pda would buy this, as most pda cases are tight fits.

As for digital camera, well my case isn't so tight so at first thought it would be rather useful, only problem being is my digital camera doesn't have a clear (flat) surface on it big enough to stick the holder!

Looks useful, maybe offer velcro stick as well so that as you indicate sticking it on a battery you can still swap it when you swap batteries!

Might also be useful for those people with cases that don't have SD Card holders...

Sorry, but I donīt get the point, I think itīs useless. Almost any memory card has a case delivered with it, and if you use a case for your PDA, thereīs no need of that thing.

I think it could be a good idea for some people but I don't want to add any size to my pocket pc. One problem could be it would not even sit flat on a table. Sure, most of the time you hold it but if you set it down it would look kind of hokey. I guess you could give it four, one in each corner, so it sit's flat.

I don't usually carry extra cards around as I have a large SD and a large CF loaded in my Axim. When I do carry a card I want to know that the cards ( including the contacts ) are going to stay clean. I have several CF cases that have a place for a SD card as well. What could be better? They take up little room, hold one of each style cards, and are free. That's going to be tough to beat.

I don't see me purchasing this product.

Wait a minute...

Is it me or does the SD holder look like a modified Listerine PocketPak?

The Reward for Return sticker is from http://www.stuffbak.com/. I haven't used them, but I've been considering it. The labels start around $2 each (in bulk.) If an item is found, then you pay $15 plus shippng to get it returned.

I remember it being about the same...

I think you miss the point. You could stick that thing just about anywhere. It doesn't have to go on the back of the handheld. I could see me buying one and sticking it to the cradle of my new hx4700 to hold a complete system back-up.

I can't tell you teh number of SD cards I have laying around. And, I have a heck of a time finding the right one when I really need it. This is perfect for us ADD folk that can never find thos little postage stamp-sized cards when they really need them.

And, I immediately thought Listerine PocketPacks stip case too, but having worked with mock-ups, it's probably just the similar color that envokes that association as I looked at a PocketPack case and it's too high -- even modded -- to hold an SD card snug. So, I guess I won't be dremeling my own unit out of a used-up pack of my own. :devilboy:

I came up with an SD card holder idea myself a few months ago, but don't know of anyone who could manufacture it. If the originator of this idea has manufacturing contacts, I'd certainly be interested in discussing it with him.

I have a question, how well does the card fit in the case? Is it tight enough that it won't slip out when jostled?

Looks fairly useless me thinks. First, you really shouldnt be carrying a $300+ ppc without a case. fine a case with a sd slot. I use a soft ipaq case and it has 2 pockets inside it for sd, and cf cards. Something like this is just gonna get poped off the next time you rub your ppc against some corner.

A) in my experience, any non-metal cases eventually lose their SD card holding power, ie, the holders deform to the shape of the card, eventually losing the friction necessary to hold the card in place.

2) Only my Sandisk 256MB came with a case. Neither of my Lexars did so I may consider this if I can get more info.

Sorry, no. Talking about it here might get somebody else working on making it. I'd like to get some money out of this. :-)

All my SD cards came with a protective plastic cover. Why do I want to buy another cover to replace the free ones ?

I have already purchased thin 3 mm SD cardholder that can hold 3 SD cards inside, which I can attach at the back of my axim.

I also have several empty listerine pocketpaks, which can actually hold 2 SD cards on emergencies ... got this idea from mr. rocky_raher on this thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30758&start=10)

No sale for me.

LOL... when I got home I just happened to have a listerine pack here and whaddaya know... if you just cut off the lip of the pack (when open that little jutting portion) an SD card fits perfectly inside. :rainbowafro:

The SD fits best when upside down, but fits right side up. You can push the SD card fully into the case though (It couldn't fall out). The case easily splits in two.

I suppose you could use velcro for easy attaching and removal... or krazy glue for a more permanent solution. :bangin:

Ya know what... that sample model looks EXTREMELY like my listerine case sans lip... except for the little X cuttings. :|

It looks like you did buy an SD holder.

I agree that the pictured one seems iffy. Replacing one plastic card holder with another seems silly. However, my idea has a few advantages which I hope would make it worth buying.

Of course, as others have said, if you have SD slots in your PDA case, there's not much reason for an SD case -- unless you have more SD cards than slots. Most cases seem to have two slots, and you bought a three-card holder.... :-)

I think you pretty much covered my thought. So, when are we going to see your invention ? :)

If I may offer a suggestion, a perfect SD card holder should have at least these 3 properties :
1. Thin. Less than 3 mm if at all possible.
2. Can be easily opened with one hand
3. The locking mechanism must be perfect, it must never opens by itself
4. Can be easily attached to a device (not by using velcro because it makes the overall package too thick)

I am not using any casing for the axim X5 anymore. I simply doubletaped the 3 SD card container at the back of my axim. But recently I developed a paranoid habit to check from time to time that the container is still attached to the back of the axim.

Thanks to everyone who responded to the survey...I've got the feedback I needed. I appreciate all the opinions otherwise and have to admit that everthing said has gone through my head...although I have not tried to stuff an SD card in a listerine pak before! To PONY99CA: drop me an email at [email protected] and I try to help you out.

PS: I do have patent pending status on this idea...but am not extremely confident in it having the ability to sell alone...if anyone has any ideas on a unique marketing approach, please contact me. Thanks.

I foresee a significant demand for listerine pocketpaks within the pocket PC community

Now if someone can prove that the minty flavor can cure the fabled sandisk SD card problem ...

a few months ago i got the bright idea to cram an sd card into one of the tiny altoids tins http://www.clorders.com/altoids/shoppe.html(down on the bottom) and it fit perfectly, so if you want rhino-case-like protection, you should try one of those :)
