I have an NEC MobilePro 780. Recently the CompactFlash card slot started behaving strangely--most of the time it refuses to recognize a CF memory card as a memory card. After eliminating the possibility of a software problem, I bought a PCMCIA-to-CF adapter. I can't use my 802.11b card and CF card together anymore, but that doesn't really matter. The problem: the card is now displayed as "Storage Card" instead of "Storage Card2." This means that I will have to fix a lot of shortcuts. Is there a way to set the card to display as "Storage Card2"? I know that it is possible to rename the various drives on the BE-300, but that is CE 3.0, and this is 2.11. Any ideas?

To answer my own question:
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Drivers > PCMCIA > ATADisk.
Create a new string called "Folder" and give it a value of "Storage Card2".
Change the value of the string "Folder2" to "Storage Card" from "Storage Card2" (I'm not sure that this step is technically necessary if you only will be using one slot, but I imagine that a conflict here could make bad things happen if you do use more than one. Better safe than sorry.)
Insert the CF card, with PCMCIA adapter. It should now be mapped to "Storage Card2".

Thanks for sharing that solution Tom W.M. It all helps to build up the knowledgebase here - very usefull. :)

I'd like to add a note: after some experimentation, it appears that the original "Storage Card" now appears as "Storage Card3", not "Storage Card" as I supposed it would. Why? :?
