I have tried for a long time (9 months) to find a way to get hold of the upgrade from PPC 2002 to 2003. Toshiba won't sell it to me :-(
Anyone have a version of the upgrade CD that they don't want any more?
I use Wi-Fi a LOT and find the 2002 Wi-Fi set up terrilble .... hoping that 2003 version works better for me.

I'm also looking for PPC2003 upgrade for my e755 but Toshiba doesn't sell it anymore.

I'm not sure you'd be able to purchase this legally. Anyone who bought it would assumedly have used it on their device. If they then sold the media to you, it would be illegal.
The only hope would be to find someone who purchased the update for a valid device but didn't use it.
I know because I contemplated selling my PPC2002 update for one of my old iPAQ's (my 3650 I think) and realized the issue.

But if something is no longer available for sale, shouldn't that change it's status to freeware. Like the copyright on a song or a patent. When will it be legal to copy or sell the Toshiba WM2003 upgrade? 10 years, 25 years or never? Didn't they give up their protection rights when they chose to stop selling it. Not like it was a "limited edition" collectors item or something.
Don't get me wrong. Every program on every one of my machines is registered and licensed, but if someone wants my purchased, registered copy of MS Office 95, they can have it.

I can see a number of ways a user might have a legal copy available for sale and/or transfer.
They upgraded, had issues, reverted to 2002.
Their device died/got lost/stolen before updating machine.
A company bought more copies than needed.
I am sure there are several others.
Most software has a method available for transfering licenses.

There is always ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38332&item=5725869264&rd=1). $17.00 for three stylus and the WM2003 upgrade CD sounds a pretty good deal to me.
Seller seems reputable going off feedback and says they will ship worldwide if you are not in the US.

Nice one :-)
I have looked on Ebay on numerous occasions and never seen that CD available before.
Interestingly, the seller is also seling an E750 motherboard that has been upgraded to PPC 2003 ....
... far be it for me to draw any conclusions ;-)

Yes - I did notice that. But, like you, I would be the last one to draw any conclusions....

I took a look at his selling history. He bought a job-lot of PDAs, apparently many broken. Seems he has 'collected' software and updates onto a CD and he sells that with either a replacement battery or a three-pack of styluses (Styli? Stylii?).
He also sells the PDA motherboards separately ... upgraded to PPC 2003. The idea being that you can use the motherboard to replace or upgrade your existing machine.
Probably slightly naughty, but enterprising at the very least :-)

Toshiba certainly aren't winning any friends in the PPC realm these days, what with refusing update the E740 to Microsoft's latest PPC OS, and refusing to any longer sell their upgrade for the E750 to that OS, as well. What could they be thinking with that last move, anyway?
I'm just starting a discussion with Toshiba about my E750 (I was told to call back between 10AM and 10PM, when their "PDA Team" is about). I've owned it since July of 2003, but I've only recently realized that the OS onboard is PPC 2002, *not* WM2003! I know, I know, I could have used a  about a year and a half ago, but it wasn't even all that easy for me to determine that OS 3.xxx = PPC2002 and OS 4.xxx = WM2003!
In any case, somehow I doubt whether Tosh will instantly recognize that they need to sell me the WM03 upgrade (for their stated $16+S&H), and I'll be looking at an eBay purchase. I noticed that someone is selling JUST the upgrade CD for $3 (plus S&H!). I have absolutely no qualms about a purchase like that, especially if they refuse to sell me mine for $16. After all, who will have hung whom out to dry, first?

I too want to find WM2003 SE for my e755. Anyone have luck? I'm interested now cause of Playforsure and also being able to upgrade to Windows Media 10 with its easy video playback and encodeing for PPC.

Apart from what Steve has suggested, being able to acquire a WM2003SE does not necessarily mean you will get Windows Media 10 as well. Some of the first releases of the WM2003SE upgrade included a revamped update of Windows Media 9, as the newer version of Windows Media was not yet available. When it was made available, only some companies made it available for their devices (e.g. Dell and the Axim X50, or HP and the rx3000). There are still a lot of WM2003SE devices out there running Windows Media 9, without an upgrade path to Windows Media 10 at this stage, unless the vendor releases a ROM update.
In short, I wouldn't be holding my breath about a WM2003SE (and even a Windows Media 10) upgrade for your e755. There's a high chance it won't happen.

Not that it's SE, but in case anyone's still looking for it, here's the WM2003 update that Toshiba sold (for a while) after the E750 series came out. You need all five zip files:

The SE update for the e800's does not include WMP 10; it still uses 9. In fact, most SE devices out when WMP 10 was released will probably not see an update that includes it. Sad, but true. Seems it's a more involved step than just updating one app version for another.

I could be wrong of course, but it seems to me that there is probably no better reason for a hardware manufacturer (or rather, vendor) to eschew OS updates to keep a given platform at or near the state of the "art" than to make money. The lack of recent OS updates to a device would certainly tend to move users toward the Next Higher Number in the product line, right?

Can this update be used on a e740?
No, the WM2003 update only works on the e750 series. Toshiba's marketeers carry the day once again.
