It's been a great PDA for me. I'm still using my 3870, got it in Spring 2002. It's supported nearly everything I've wanted to do (no Skype though) for the most part. There are definitely better PDAs today though, but the 3800 series is still nice.

Anything more specific?

do you know if it supports 512 sd ram sticks?AFAIK, yes. Can't think of any reason it wouldn't. I have a 256 one now, and just ordered a 1 GB one, so I'll let you know if it doesn't.

what about sandisk Ultra II SD cards?Don't see any reason they wouldn't work, but you won't really gain any speed from it. I don't know the specifics, but bus speeds on Pocket PCs aren't even fast enough to use all of the bandwidth in regular SD cards. But it'll still work, just at a slower speed.

The 3800 series has a very dark screen compared to other Pocket PC's. It doesn't really to ClearType any good either.

Besides from that it's a good device.

I had a 3850 and the nice 3.8 inch screen is awesome, but not really quality-wise, but I mean it's still an awesome pocket pc. However, I would take a look at the 3900 series as well. The 3900 screen is a lot better than the 3800, and it has a faster processor. I'm not sure how much more expensive it is than the 3800 nowadays, but if I had a choice now I htink I'd pick up a 3950 first.
