Switch to Firefox and love it, but have found one odd behavior. Certain links will cause the entire browser to close. For example, go to http://www.intellicast.com/ and click the hurricane map on the right side of the page and the entire browser closes. Link works fine in IE. Any ideas?

Also, any way to have two different bookmark toolbars. The wife and I could each have a toolbar and could open only our pages in tabs.

edit: guess I should have tested that first ;) guess you can create new toolbars, but they disappear if nothing is on them. :(

Hi Goldkey,

I went to the page and opened the hurricane map fine, although they make heavy use of Java and scripts to refresh it. I would suspect that an update of your Java install might solve that problem, if you install the xpi from this page (http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=52) it will update your system. It will probably block the installation first time round, just click for the options and allow the site.

I know of no way you can have two completely different bookmark toolbars, although did you know you can bookmark a folder? So you could each have your own folder of bookmarks, then drag and drop both folders onto the bookmark toolbar or within the bookmark manager. Then, when you click on the folder on the toolbar it will drop down a list of all the bookmarks inside...not quite what you want I know but it should do.

Enjoy Firefox. It is truly a browsing revelation. Pick thru the extensions, there are some great ones, indispensable for me are the Google toolbar, All-in-One Gestures, Tabbrowser Preferences, and a great way to get your RSS fix is the Sage extension. There are lots more that may or may not be useful for you...

A good theme to use is TomCat's Mostly Crystal (http://www.tom-cat.com/mozilla/firefox.html) which is highyl customisable and provides plenty of menu icons...

Thanks guys,

The java update fixed problem number one.

I think you are right about the bookmarks, even if I create another toolbar, I can only have bookmarks on the one. What I want is two different bookmark toolbars so we can each put our favorite links on them, then with one click, each of us can tab open all of our favorite sites without having to see the others.

This gets slightly more complicated, but a surefire way of having two bookmark folders is to use two different Firefox profiles...

Glad to hear that. A lot of people are still running the old Java 1.4.2 or even older editions of it. About a month ago, Sun released their new update, 1.5 (also known as Version 5), of which I posted a thread in the OT forum. It has many new updates and bug fixes, so if any users out there are having Java-based problems, or get a rush out of updating things for the hell of it, you should lay your hands on 1.5 as soon as you finish reading this post. :)

How would I do that?

Ahhh...OK...knew I shouldn't have gotten myself involved... ;)

Only joking...

If you use the Internet at home and at work, you may want to have access to a different set of bookmarks, preferences, and so on. Similarly, family members may want to share the same copy of Firefox but keep their Internet identities separate.

The Profile Manager lets you create different profiles, each with its own bookmarks, preferences, and so on. Firefox automatically creates a default profile upon first install. If you create one or more additional profiles, you will be asked which you want to use each time you launch Firefox.

More info on creating a new profile can be found here (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/help-viewer/docs/firebird/profiles.html) and here (http://texturizer.net/firefox/).
