I know the people over at HP are shivering in their clothes over the new Dell x50v. I am also sure that the people over at aximsite are as proud as could be. I could feel it also.

The thing that makes this soo exciting is that Dell is a U.S. company thats competing with HP in the VGA section and HP has had alot of control. The other competitors are fugitsu siemens with their Loox 720, Asus with the 730 and Toshiba with the 830, but i don't know about you guys but the feeling of being comfortable and close to Dell is growing.

I know they may not have been doing as well as HP but they have proven that this isn't a short race and it's not going to be won by quantity but by quality plus with lower prices.

So I think Dell has proven that they are going to be a force to be reconed with. I just feel that HP could have knocked Dell out but they played around, and Dell my just have the second wind to knock the wind out of HP's sails, no pun intended.

Looking at the PDF for the x50v I just felt it, the same way I felt with the h2215, but I just think HP played with our emotions like a bad girlfriend and now it's time to let her go.

So I think I have decided on a device change, and that's from a HP to a Dell. Besides the price is just georgeous, in addition to the looks.

A. Learn how to count, there are only 5 options above the "all six above" or w/e option :P
B. Where's your "It looks nice, but I will only buy the VGA version when it gets discounted" option?

I just bought a X30 mid no more than 2 months ago... I'd have to sell it for the X50v (the highest version, with 128MB of ram and a VGA screen)

Only 1100 mAh battery.
Only SerialIR.
Only 64MB RAM.
No jog dial.
No USB host.

Where's the option for - distinctly underwhelmed?

(yes - it has the GPU - but that will be crippled by the small battery and VGA screen, isn't needed for movie playback - not when we have BetaPlayer, and while nice for games - that isn't enough to make up for the shortfall in other PDA features...)

Seriously - where is the cause for excitement? That it will be cheap? Just think - if they charged a little more they could have stuck more RAM and a bigger battery in there...!

I just ordered the iPAQ rx3715 from hp online. I was going to wait for the new Dell, but I tried this one up at CompUSA and loved it. I had the slim hp 4155 but sold it. I currently have the Dell X30 (624mhz) and I just can't get into it. I think it's the form factor. I know the 3715 is square as well but it just looks & feels better in my hand. It also feels lighter, although I haven't looked at the specs to see if that is correct.

I would love a VGA screen, but battery life is much to important. I travel overseas at least once a month & my toys have to be able to get me to my destination!

hmm... i'm only a pupil man. .. lol. counting included

Well i just like the look and supposed feel of the x50v, it seems like a 4150, but more powerful. I think it could be used as a remote control, because in the PDF it theres a remote control software.

Hmm, but I am willing to make a bet that the X50 will have more market share than Loox720. :)

I mean ... $499 vs. $699 ?

:) It's about time we started having a decent Price/Quality ratio....

I am stoked! As a member of the Aximsite, yes, I am proud as can be! The X50v is what I've been waiting for. Coming from the X5, this is a big leap for me! I've always wanted a better Axim with dual slots... and here it is! The new X50v, (currently) everything I wanted on a Pocket PC! :D

Well - the figures will be much closer together in Europe where the Loox 720 is officially sold - and frankly the fetaure set of the Loox is better value. However - yes, Dell have greater market share. Where is the shock in that? Dell have way more muscle than FSC and can afford to play the price game.

Am I the only one who thinks the machine looks ugly and with its anemic battery is actually horrible value for money?

I could get up to 4 houres of WiFi use out of my Toshiba E800, this one manages only half that.

Thanks but ill pass on this ugly POS(no not PalmOS)

Yeah - if the Loox were available HERE, maybe I would have gotten it, even at $600. It's not actually the price of the Loox that's the problem (here), it's the complete lack of availability. Unfortunately, it is not available in the US, and I'm not willing to order from out-of-country and deal with support headaches because of it.

If the Asus 730w were available now, I might have picked that. Unfortunately, it isn't. Personally I think it's a bad move to put out one version of a model, and then the more powerful one later (aren't the people who are more likely to jump right on it the ones that want everything?)

I need to have the device in my hands before Nov 30th (leaving for Australia), so I didn't want to wait to see when the 730w would be released.

As for the battery - yeah, I'm disappointed. So disappointed, that I just assumed I'd want the extended battery. So I don't consider the x50v to be a $500 purchase, but a $590 purchase. Still, though - it doesn't change the fact that I just can't get the Loox even if I wanted.

So don't rain on my parade, Duncan. :P ;)
