Hi all,

I own a Tungsten C, and was kicking around the idea of buying an older PPC to play Divx videos. IMO, a QVGA screen is actually better in some respects for video playback than 320 x 480 (or 320 x 320).

With QVGA you can fit movies nicely within 200-250 MB, with excellent quality (I currently use 2-pass Xvid at ~250 kbps and get awesome results.) It also doesn't require too much horsepower for playback, and plays fullscreen on a Pocket PC. If I encode at 320 x 240 and scale up with MMPlayer on a T3, the screen is blocky and pixellated, basically negating the advantage of higher screen resolution.

Since there have been so many hardware and software updates, I thought a 1 or 2 year old PocketPC could be had for cheap on Ebay that could play good video. It would also let me dip back into PPC land (I used to own a Jornada 568), while I still use my Tungsten C as my main PDA (I need a thumboard, and use too much Palm software right now to make a full switch.)

Of course, a nice transreflective screen would be highly desired (or whatever is nice and bright and has good color saturation.) I was thinking along the lines of a Toshiba e355, or maybe a iPaq 1910.

Any pointers?

Thanks!
Steve
