The top end SanDisk Ultra II Memory Stick PRO and SD cards now boast 4GB and 2GB of capacity respectively....Each SanDisk Ultra II card features a minimum write speed of 9 megabytes per second (MB/sec.) and a minimum read speed of 10MB/sec."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/ultraii-family.jpg" /><br /><br />Gee, already the <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,32692">4 GB card I tested</a> looks small. The price of the 8 GB card ($959 USD) puts it in the stratosphere for most people, but this will cause a trickle-down effect whereby smaller capacity cards drop in price. Who would have guessed that a 2 GB high-speed Ultra II CF card <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001CNMFM/ref=nosim/jasondunn-20?dev-t=D1YTAYQUFY4QNO%26camp=2025%26link_code=xm2">could be had for only $199 USD?</a> [Affiliate]

i cant see myself buying that. you can get 8 256mb sd cards for 80dollars. seems like a better deal to me.

I would love to see you juggle those 8 cards to get the MP3 song you want, or swap cards to see which ones your photos were on. I think most folks would be willing to pay a slight premium for larger units - less hassle.

I see. Well then, what you need is an external USB floppy drive (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?Submit=list&catalog=13&DEPA=1&page=2&listStyle=2) and 2,844.44 (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=4GB+%2F+1.44MB+%3D&btnG=Search) floppy disks

Yes. I said folk would be willing to pay a small permium, i.e. this is too much at the moment, but the price will drop.

The only thing i regret about my X30 is that it doesnt have a CF slot. Now i really regret it! High capactiy SD cards are too dang expensive.

That sounds good hehe :)

But with the SanDisk Ultra II SD 1GB listed at $120 MSRP, maybe the SanDisk Extreme III SD 1GB that was also just announced at $140 MSRP (coming October) might be a better choice? The Ultra II is the existing top-speed at 9-10MB/sec read/write, whereas the Extreme III represents the next generation top speed at 20MB/sec (along with the just announced Panasonic), yeah?

Not really. SanDisk 1GB SD for $83.99 on Newegg. Not bad at all. Only about $10 more than a comparable CF card.

I suspect that 2GB SD cards will be under $100 in less than a year.

Now that's strange, I'd coincidentally checked the Kingmax 1GB SD at NewEgg like 10 hours ago and it was at $88.99. Now it's $83.50, guess prices do fluctuate significantly hour to hour?

Give it a while and you will find the price will drop. When CF cards first came into the market, they were very expensive, but look at it today...they're as cheap as anything. SD cards have followed this trend and high-capacity SD cards will soon become very cheap.

Yup, I *really* like having a CF slot. My next PPC *will* have one. :)

True, but CF cards have always been cheaper than SD cards of equivalent capacity and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
