I would like to know how to make "Contacts" and "Notes" private so if I lose the PPC someone cannot access important info. I cannot figure it out and although there is a small box on the lower right side of the screen to check "Private" it does not do anything!!!
What am I missing here?

There's no way to to what you want with the default Pocket PC applications. The "private" flag is mostly a ruse - I think if you select it on the desktop PC, it won't sync over. There are some 3rd party software tools that will encrypt your contacts - try searching Handango.
