View Full Version : Screen Protectors?

I'm curious how others feel about this.
I used screen protectors for a while. I can remember when the iPaq 1910 came out and there weren't any available and I had to cut my own down to size.
Then while in between changing protectors, I looked at that beautiful screen... so easy to see without the plastic over it... so easy to write on without the resistance of the protector... and decided not to use them anymore. I've never looked back! Especially since there's always a newer/better PPC to by every year!
Just make sure that you stylus is not damaged and always has a smooth surface. It seems to me that is the main cause of scratches.
I don't even use a case... that's because I think a Pocket PC belongs in a pocket!

There are a couple protectors that are completely clear - the G2 protector is one.
If you don't use a case or screen protector then expect some scratches if you put it in your pocket. Even the cloth wouldn't be of high enough quality.
I understand your frustration though. I wish they didn't even need any protection at all.

I have been using the NuShiel screen protector on my Jornada and now my Toshiba e755 and have to say that I really do not even notice that it is there.
As for carrying my "Pocket" PC in my pocket I am with you 100% - where else would you carry it :D. As an old Jornada (and before that Newton) user I cannot, however, imagine a PDA without an actual flip over screen cover. It was for this reason that the first thing I bought (in fact I ordered it even before my Toshiba arrived) when I got my e755 was a flip over cover from PocketSolutions. The combination of a hard cover and the NuShield gives me excellet protecton of my screen, no noticable loss of clarity and the confidence to carry my Pocket PC where it belongs - in my pocket!

I don't get it. What's the theory behind that? :?

In the winter I usually keep my PPC stored in one of the inner pockets of my coat; being a winter coat it is nice and padded, thus no need for protective casing.
I hate it in the summer if you keep your PPC in your pocket.... "are you happy to see me or is that a PPC in your pocket" I wish dockers still sold/made their "tech pants".

I lost my original stylus months ago and the stupid Belkin replacement has caused repeated scratches to the (funny enough) Belkin screen protectors. Bit of a rort really - to the point where I stopped replacing the scratched protectors.
Haven't gotten round to buying a more expensive screen protector or stylus yet.
I store my PPC either in my laptop bag or in a pocket.
But I'm going to be backpacking/travelling at the end of the year so I'm looking for a hard-case for my Toshi e310 as I know I'll lose it or break it otherwise - India's full of pickpockets :P

Ah I get you now. It doesn't THAT cold here in winter to even consider wearing a huge padded coat, so I was kind of clueless about the whole summer/winter thing.

When I saw you initial question about what this comment meant I was thinking of jumping and noting that it is not something you would ever need to worry about it Perth. Ahhhh I miss those mild winters (much like an Irish Summer :D)....

I don't use a case, but I put on a screen protector after my screen got some scratches on it. I don't mind the slighly duller screen, worth it for the glare reduction and the nice texture the Writeshields give the screen, not to mention the peace of mind :)
