You might want to try PocketWeather (http://www.sbsh.net) - it's pretty much in beta now, but it's free while it is! :)

I've been using it and I like it so far.. and after all, the price is right.

Another vote for Weather Panel. It's very well executed. I also switched from Journal Bar to WorldMate and have finally settled on Weather Panel with Juni's icons.

You may want to check out Stocks & Weather Today, it has very cool theme switching abilities and animated icons....but as I can't find any screenshots of the guts of the program I am loathe to even try the demo...time for a PPCT review/comparison of weather apps I think! :D

I have purchased JournalBar, Stocks and Weather Today, and WeatherPanel. I don't use JournalBar at all any more. I switch back and forth between S&WT and WP.

I like the WP interface and the info it displays, but I have a couple of issues with it. One, I think it gets rid of the current temp after too short a time (1 hour I believe). So if I disconnect my iPAQ, go for a car ride, and arrive at wherever I'm going, the temperature (or what it was an hour prior) is gone. I get an extra day of forecasts instead. In emailing the developer, s/he seemed receptive to the idea of either increasing that time period or providing an option to not have it disappear, but didnt' sound thrilled about that because s/he couldn't understand why I'd want an outdated temperature. (I don't live an area where temperatures change by 50 degrees in an hour. Plus it's nice to know what the temp was a few hours ago just for comparison.) I don't know if s/he is working on it or has decided against it. Second, I also wish there was a manual "refresh" icon on the large display in WP, since there's one in the other two views, and I like to refresh right before I disconnect (since that temp will disappear in an hour).

S&WT is a nice program and doesn't have the above limitations, but it doesn't provide as nice an interface (no radar images I think). It does have a popup forecast window in "normal language" that I like. I sometimes also let it change the today theme on a rotating basis. Juni's add-on themes/icons are great for that, too. All in all, I like both.

I tried PocketWeather once, but I found the interface cluttered. I'm sure it will get worked out as the other products by SBSH that I've tried are awesome.

Cheeers,

Yeah, I agree about WP's temps, but primarily from an aesthetic point of view...not having any info there (even old info) just looks ugly.

I have also emailed the developer about this and have asked what's in store for the future.

I am also waiting for Pocket Weather to get the full 'Breeze treatment and come out of beta. I think they are just getting the mechanics of it all sorted out at the moment.

Own: Stocks & Weather Today, Journal Bar, PocketWeather, Weather Panel
Use: Weather Panel and S&WT

Primary use is Weather Panel, I like the display and the new animated icons are killer (should be released soon if they're not already). S&WT is great too but WP gets my nod.

I use Weather Today currently, as when I tried Pocket Weather recently, it still had some issues that needed to be fixed. But I'll be looking at it again as new versions come out - the developer is very good at addressing problems and releasing new versions.

Weather Panel looks very good, i'm about to download it. I'll probably purchase it eventualy, but I want to know, people that have purchased this current versions, do they get FREE updates for future versions?

WeatherPanel is still one of my favourites. Version 2 allows you to skin the weather icons. Check Juni's site for some samples.

This is definitely Marsware's Weather Panel you are talking about? Because animated icons was one of the feature requests I put in!

re: WP, what version number is that version (if you're allowed to disclose such info)? I have 2.0.1. Is there an updated, publicly available version? Just wondering what goodies will be in the updated version.

My version (now with the animated icons, and space for up to 3 satellite URLs) still shows version 2.0.

I am sure the version number will change when the final executable is released...

The animated icons are fantastic, by the way.

I checked out WeatherPanel and it looks good.

There's only one thing - is there a way to get it even smaller?

I tried their smallest size and it's still far bigger than I'd like a weather display.

Go to http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=287193#287193 if you want to see some screen shots of Stocks and Weather Today.

Thanks for that...I really like the addition of METAR data...but for the moment I think I'll stick with WP and see what else the update is going to bring...

Curious - how did you settle on mixing stocks with weather?

As a shameless plug for S & W T , I would be willing to provide a table listing capabilities of S & W T.

I would invite the other weather application writers to add a column for their app. and also rows for features that I may have neglected to mention.

This way people could easily compare the features of the different apps and select the one that matches their current needs.

Please reply if you have opinions one way or another. If several people want it and no one has strong objections I will try to get to it in the next week or so.

Please let me know if this forum is not appropriate and another forum should be used instead.

Thanks
