And best of all: they are all in multiformat, i.e. no DRM.

Note also the preorder with 100% micripay rebate for Kings Dark Tower VII - this is with DRM. :(

And FictionWise now introduces part 2 of the give-away - have they found a way of making money by giving away the goods? Well, no complains from me about this!

Yes, the Palm Doc format.

Why, have you made a vow to only use ubook?

so far i've only tried the microsoft reader (about a year ago, when they were giving away some free ebooks) and ubook. IMHO, ubook is better than microsofts reader. at least the version i was using back then. i prefer the landscape mode and the full use of real estate that ubook offers. i also was under the impression that ubook was able to handle more formats.

ps. thanks for the help with the formats. maybe you can also suggest a better dictionary to use for ubook. right now the built in one is pretty lousy. and i often have to use lexionary to look up words. i would prefer to just highlight and find definitions while reading (like the microsoft reader offers).

IMHO, ubook is better than microsofts reader

Most ebook reaers are better than MS Reader interms of user interface, speed etc. but the text in MS Reader looks so much better than it does in any other reader. uBook unfortunately looks fuzzy on my PPC's so I hardly ever use it. However, I can see that many in this forum love it.

Re. the dictionary: you have noticed that there are two dictionaries for ubook http://www.gowerpoint.com/uBook_down_nf.html (it comes with a tiny version to save space) plus a tool to make you own dictionary?

uBook handles apart from Palm DOC (.PDB or .PRC), RTF, HTML and ASCII text (even zipped). You could de-code Palm DOC to ASCII text (and if you have too much time on your hands or you have aesthetic sense, convert that to HTML or RTF :). Or you could decode the Reader .LIT file to html.

Since you get as many of the formats as you like from Fictionwise, you should try some of the other ebook readers. Each reader have its own advantages and peculiarities. And don't ask which one is "best" - some like one, and some another. If you want to know more about the formats, this article cover the Palm formats http://cebooks.blogspot.com/2004_09_01_cebooks_archive.html#109473962447756472 - note that it is not necessary to know any of this.
