At first there was no programming language for the Pocket PC, and then 3rd - party languages came forward like NSBasic…
Then embedded Visual Tools came available - for Free! What a boon for the hobbyist and small programmer… Tons of content were developed on this platforms…
Then Visual Studio 2003 came with its $1000. price tag and all the hobbyist and small programmers couldn't pay the price to move into this package, but it was the only way to get into CF and SDE…
SQLCE has been out for a while, but no good way for a small developer to leverage as SQL Server was not on the desktop as it is primarily an enterprise product… So we are left with trying to use .mdb/.cdb databases with their limitations, and the limitations of ADOCE…
Now the Express line of products are coming forward…
But will the Express programs have SDE and CF capabilities?
Will SQL Server Express allow the small programmer to create SQL tables on the desktop and keep them in sync on the Pocket PC?
This Express line gives me some hope, while I'm trying to dampen my enthusiasm for fear of another $1000 package to move Pocket PC programs to a new level…
So, what to you see?
