<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://msmobiles.com/news.php/3033.html' target='_blank'>http://msmobiles.com/news.php/3033.html</a><br /><br /></div>IBM has released a Java virtual machine that is part of <a href="http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/product.jsp?s=p&id=DVDE-634P22">IBM WebSphere Micro Development Edition</a>. The MIDP 2.0 Java runs on Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC. Free to download but for commercial purposes there is a license fee involved. An installation guide can <a href="http://x.msmobiles.com/portal/user_manual/ibm-java.html">be found here</a>.<br /><br />I've seen a number of Java based Pocket PC applications and haven't been impressed with the user interface. Graphical controls get distorted and the Start-menu is often thrown to the bottom of the screen. However, from the little I've seen from IBM's new software I can say that it looks much better. Can this be the first Java implementation that actually works on the Windows Mobile platform?

38 MB?? :?
The installer is 38M expands to 50M then installs ~1.7M on PPC

You're a brave man linking to msmobiles considering Jason's, uh, distaste for the site.

Please discuss the topic, not other arguments. There's been quite enough arguments around here lately. ;) Thanks.

I installed this onto my 6315, and downloaded Emailviewer (the .jar file web link) to read HTML email from www.reqwireless.com. Works perfectly.
I haven't read a way to download java apps using Activesync; looks like you need to use a web link to download directly onto the device.

Does anyone know if this will enable the actionbar.jar applet to work for Lotus Notes Webmail.
This is the toolbar for New Foward Delete etc etc

Marcel, I downloaded and installed the MIDP 2.0 for HP iPAQ Pocket PC h5550 (Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC) onto my 6315.
I even installed it onto the iPAQ File Store without a problem. When you run it on your device, it gives you a page to input a web link to a java app for it to install on your unit. It works with Reqwireless's stuff (Webviewer, Emailviewer, Hotviewer, etc.). I haven't tried any other java apps, though.

thanks Pinnacle, I will try. Hopefully it will work on my e800. There are many web sites, which neither ie nor Netfront can quite handle, this would be great if it works for me.
As for the question re games just posted, I think it might! that would open up a lot of possibilities for gaming.

I've installed the JVM and everything onto an SD Card in my Axim X5 Advanced. When you try to run the included Golf Score MIDlet from the Start Menu, it doesn't work (maybe the shortcut is assuming that things are installed in the main memory?).
However, if you use File Explorer and browse to the installation folder, go under "examples" and launch the .jar file, the IBM java environment automatically launches and prepares to install the applet. Say yes, and then launch the applet, and it works.
At least, that's what happened to me. I'd imagine your file store would be similar?
