I am contemplating getting an expansion pack for my e755 and was wondering if there are any drivers about that would allow you to use the usb port to connect to something like a usb memory key?

actually now I am thinking about it I wonder just what USB drivers have been written for the Pocket PC.....

This guy has written some USB drivers for use with the Toshiba expansion pack including the storage device driver that you are looking for. It's all freeware except for the 2003 mass storage driver which he's apparently licensed exclusively to another company.

As my e755 is a WM2003 device that is bad news for me. Even worse it seems that the driver is only available if you purchase their hard drive.....

Hmmm, maybe I will have to rethink the idea of getting an expansion pack. One of the main reasons I was interested in it was the potential for accessing data from a USB memory device like a memory key.

Ohh well, back to the drawing board.

I went to the AnyPak web site to see if I could order the driver because I've had a couple of situations where it would have come in handy. But when I click the order button I get the following message in big red letters:

Sorry, Anypak Peripheral Devices, Inc is closed. We are no longer selling hard drives or PPC drivers.

So, I went back to the developer's site and sent him an e-mail to see if I could purchase it directly. It's been more than 24 hours and I haven't heard anything back yet. Normally 24 hours wouldn't mean much but I sent a suggestion to this developer once before and didn't get a response at all.

If it turns out that the distributor and the developer have dropped the product is there some way we can get a copy from someone who bought it when it was available? The drivers were written for devices (e750, e755) that are no longer in production right? I can see why they would stop supporting it but I tried the demo and it seemed to work fine with my thumb drive.

Have you tried the Ratoc USB Mass Storage Driver? That has worked fine for me on my e805 through the USB host cable.

Hmm is this the driver that goes with their CF Card USB Host adaptor HERE (http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/subpages/cfu1u.html)?

Anyway I have just downloaded the driver and if I do end up getting the expansion pack I will certainly give it a try.

That worked BEAUTIFULLY! Thanks a ton!

For a link to the driver and installation instructions check out this thread over in the Brighthand forums.

Does the USB Host on e800 supports USB pen Drives? (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97681)

I tried sending an e-mail to AnyPak today just on the off chance that someone might respond and they might release their driver to me. Now I don't have to worry about it. The Ratoc one works great. I installed it, I plugged in the expansion pack, I stuck in my thumb drive. I opened Resco Explorer and there it was as "Mounted Volume." I disconnected everything and got no errors and I didn't even have to do soft reset at any point in the process.

I'm sure I'll get a lot more use out of my expansion pack now.

Great news - that is exactly how I was hoping to use a USB memory drive with my e755. Now I am off to ebay to get myself an expansion pack!

I'm glad that you've had the same good results from the Ratoc driver that I have had. I apologize for not posting the link; there has been an active conversation about Deje vs Ratoc USB drivers so it slipped my mind. The CFU1U Mass Storage Driver is exactly the correct choice. You should not find it necessary to install the host or HID components since these are already in the Toshibas with USB host capability. All you need is the expansion pack or cable that gives your device the host connector. The Mass Storage Driver is generic and you will encounter storage devices it does not support, but if the storage device you use does not require a specialized driver under Windows, it will most likely will work just fine with the Ratoc driver.

I wonder if ther other drivers included in that download would owrk as well. My mouse and keyboard are not USB so I don't have any hardware to test it with.

If you could put a USB hub on it how sweet would it be to have a mouse and keyboard connected to your PPC?

<edit>OK, you anwered that while I was posting the question</edit> :)
