Problems with ActiveSync

Recently I seem to be having a problem with ActiveSync. 9 times out of 10 when I try to sync, AS thinks there are over 1500 (sometimes over 3000) un sync emails and tries to copy them over. This ends up locking up AS and I'm forced to end the process and restart.

I've tried everything I can think of to fix this problem, so I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar problmes.
