I am just getting my new A716 revved up, this past few days. I've found alot of great programs, and some good games. I am just curious...what do you have installed?

My favorites at the moment, are
Insaniquarium (http://www.astraware.com/all/featured/insaniquarium) -this is hilarious.
Snails (http://www.snailsgame.com/)- funny...battery killer tho.
Bookworm (http://www.astraware.com/all/featured/bookworm/) Nice graphics, not timed...I like that.
WordMojo (http://www.astraware.com/all/featured/wordmojo/) -took me a few tries to get past a megamojo round, but good scrabble type game. (I wasn't using all the tiles)
Reveal Your Rank (http://www.yellowgames.com/ryr.html) -this is great...Admirals/Stratego clone...quick games, and fun.
Mobiplay Reversi (http://www.aylin.biz/) -very nice graphics, harder than it looks...strategy and forethought is important, not just flipping the most discs. (I suck at this, haven't beat MyPal yet  )

If I had to pick say...4 to keep, it would be Insaniquarium, RYR, Wordmojo, and hmmm....that's a hard one...

I also have installed, TombRaider, Concentric, King Sol, and AnimalsDX.
I tried Everquest 1, and Gilbert Goodmate, but they both gave me problems...Gilbert would just not Leave (seems great tho, anyone have problems finding an exit from the game also?) and Everquest would refuse to close. I think Animals DX is going... Cute enough, but I don't plan on making it a habit to let my 8 yr old use this as a toy. Bad enough my son loves the Tombraider game...pretty well done, really. But quite a battery hog.

I do have other programs on my PPC, really I do :D

On mine, in no particular order:

Pocket GNU Go (http://www.vieka.com/gnugo/index.htm)
Fun and free. I am not very good... but it helps pass the time.

CE Zebra (http://knaan.com/cezebra/cezebra.htm)
Best Othello/Reversi game available... hands down. And it's free! ;)

Yahtzee (http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=176)
I love me some Yahtzee. A little pricey, but it looks great and is very addictive.

MS Links (http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=159)
Almost as good as the desktop version (it the desktop version was circa 1996..). Cool game... and probably the best golf game available on the PPC.

NeoTiles (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=862)
Nice little Mahjong game. Pretty graphics and it's free.

PocketNES (http://pocketnes.retrogames.com/)
A near-perfect NES emulator. This can keep me entertained for days, all by itself.

Monopoly (http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=116)
Great game, great graphics.. little pricey, but worth it.

NetHack (http://www.nethack.org/v343/ports/download-wince.html)
The graphics might be dated, but the gameplay is fantastic. Easily one of my favorite PDA games, and it's 100% open source and free.

Warfare Inc (http://www.handmark.com/warfare/preview.php)
Amazing little RTS game for the PPC. Really great graphics.. good user interface... this is an awesome game.

Bejeweled (http://www.astraware.com/ppc/featured/bejeweled/?skucode=0011-032-0032)
Doesn't get much more addictive than this. Classic.

Also, I have the Pac-Man game MS used to give away for free. Still play it fairly often ;)

Interstellar Flames (http://xengames.com/)
A decent space flying game, bought it with a special deal, probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Age of Empires (http://www.gomdm.com/p_aoe.asp)
This is an incredible game, it's graphics are excellent, the AI is believeable, the gameplay is very good. It stays VERY close to the original, it even has the same great soundtrack.

Snails (http://www.snailsgame.com/)
This is a fun game, especially for 2 bored people sitting next to each other, have yet to try the network version though. The AI is very good as well.

Space Trader (http://www.spacetrader.co.uk/st/)
This is a very good game, I played it on my old monochrome Palm and can play it for hours.

Strategic Assault (http://xengames.com/)
Pretty good strategy game, not as good as AoE, and I haven't it extensively.

Dope Wars (http://dopewarsppc.sourceforge.net/)
Great game, and addictive too  I played it on the PC and my TI-83 long ago.

Solitaire and Jawbreaker

Besides the defaults (Jawbreaker, Solitaire):

Lemonade Tycoon (http://www.jamdat.com/JamdatWeb/Catalog/US/en/game/pocketPC/ProductDetailOverviewView/product-249) - lemonade stand simulator
GemSwap (http://www.valil.com/netcf/index.html) - kinda like Bejewelled
Kevtris (http://www.angelfire.com/indie/caywen/) - kinda like Tetris

I'm game (HA!), here's my list (alphabetical):

3DCEdiCE (http://www.ru0-games.com/dice/index.php)
Reminds me of Void on the Palm but with the third dimension in play it's much nicer.

Chess (http://www.valil.com/chess2/index.html)
I don't play it much. I was never very good at it.

CrazyKart (http://www.int13.net/crazy.htm)
It's a sort of 3D racing game in the spirit of Mario Cart. It's ok but difficult to control with e750's lousy Dpad. For the money it's a bargain. The loading time can be ridiculously slow.

Flux Challenge (http://www.fluxchallenge.com/)
A true 3D racing game set in the future. I love it, I play it all the time.

Jawbreaker (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/about/tours/ppc/2003/jawbreaker.mspx)
It's in the ROM. I can't delete it. It's ok I guess. I rarely play it.

LEDhead (http://www.peterhirschberg.com/handheld/ledhead/)
The ultimate in retro gaming! It's a bunch of those old LED games in one package.

Patiences (http://www.not-big-deal.com/product.php?product_id=1&PHPSESSID=5943c3a2a66e677ec478fd298bf5646f)
Free Cell and Spider Solitaire and they're FREE! An excellent companion to the pre-installed solitaire.

PocketSNES (http://paqpark.nuclearfallout.net/projects/pocketsnes.php)
I don't kow why people bother with PocketNES when you can get a Super Nintendo Emulator. It works great for me. Would some moderator please post the standard legal disclaimer?

Scrabble (http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=107)
You know Scrabble.

Sky Force (http://www.idreams.pl/skyforce/skyforce.html)
Really great graphics and a lot of fun to play. I just got it though and I blew through the first level pretty fast. Time will tell if this one has any replay value.

Snails (http://www.snailsgame.com/)
I have Worms World Party too but I unstalled it becuase I like playing Snails a bit better. The interface just seems a lot easier to manage and very subtle differences in game play makes the Snails experience a much nicer one for me. I hope they get online multi-player for WM2003 devices fixed soon.

Solitaire
It came pre-installed, no explanation necessary.

If I had to pick my top 4:

1) Snails
2) Flux Challenge
3) Pocket SNES
4) 3DCEdiCE

Depends what you like...

But some of my favorite.. are

Fade, Gilbert Goodmate, Space Trader & Egghead...

Ripper, how do I close Gilbert? It runs full screen landscape, with no way out... I uninstalled it for now, but I did enjoy it for the bit that I played it.

I just installed Age of Empires a few minutes ago... Something to play over coffee in the am :) -oh, and I installed resco games 5 pack, to get the slider puzzle...I love slider puzzles... I just shut down my brain, and my fingers slide em all together...

Must be a particular type of brain thing. I must have a good subconscious mind, because my conscious mind goes on vacation more often lately.

I don't kow why people bother with PocketNES when you can get a Super Nintendo Emulator.

Well.. a couple of reasons (for me, anyways):

1. NES Roms are smaller
2. Most PDA's have a better NES button layout (ie: no L and R, etc)
3. the NES emu runs almost flawlessly.. with almost every game. The Pocket SNES has limited support for a very limited number of games.

Yadda yadda yadda...

I have a ton of great emulators on my PC... (Neo Geo, SNES, MAME...), but the NES seems the best comprimise of speed and compatibility on the Pocket PC. Plus, those classic games are fun

I would Love Battleship...I had it on my palm os pda, but if I lost, it froze to a hard reset :? great incentive to win. Gin rummy! neat! and I forgot, I would love a Euchre game..must look for one...Gringos? sounds interesting...Trivial pursuit! that's me...I kick Jeopardy butt...my kids love watching me watch it :splat: </brag> Yachtzee? Neat. If you get a chance, and can throw some links for the games I left in, great, if not, I will send my lazy self to google later.

Brad, I like the whole alphabetical list

I have limited my "Games" tab on today screen to 16 icons...I was gonna mention the ADD thing in my post, but I am not diagnosed, just assumed  Oh..and the resco puzzles I installed last night? great! GoMoku is a great puzzle type game, and the word game is like scrabble, but weird. good. the slider puzzle is awesome, pics are nice, but the simple 1-15 number one is the best, I think my fastest time was about 30 seconds...I got 576 points...my son was freaked :) - mind you he is a game master himself, he's got a world built in Star Wars Gallactic Battleground that is unbelievable... and he's 10 :!:

I'll likely be paying for the Resco games before the 13 days left run out, for $8.95 or whatever, it's good.

i have worms world party, which is my favourite, how does it compare to snails?

gregmills
09-06-2004, 07:10 PM
Let's see, Worms and Snails, how do they compare?

Overall:
Worms has more features and a more complex gameplay. Worms has more attitude and Snails is more "cute." Worms on the PPC tries to be as true as possible to the PC original. Snails plays better on the PPC because although it's the same game concept it was designed from the beginning for mobile devices (although a PC version is available now). Worms is a little slower to load.

Snails has, Worms doesn't:
Network gameplay - Although it's still buggy you can play Snails against other devices on other platforms across your local network and online.
Missions - You can play single player missions to pick up new exotic weapons with each level increasing in difficulty.
Level editor - The developers have released tools so that you can make your own levels. A growing collection of custom levels is available at snails.pocketmatrix.com (http://snails.pocketmatrix.com)

Worms has, Snails doesn't:
Bonus items - Packages drop out of the sky with weapon upgrades and health bonuses. Unfortunately they usually fall out of reach.
Landscape generation - Dynamic landscapes means you'll probably never play the same terrain twice. If you look around you can find a few levels with this feature for Snails but it's not in the default installation.

Weapons:
Worms has a better selection of weapons and the famous "Ninja Rope." The support documentation includes a Wormopaedia to explain what each weapon is and how to use it. To me, the additional weapons only add an uneccesary level complexity to the game. The Snails weapons are more than adequate for an exciting game.

Gameplay:
Snails wins hands down on this one. Worms is mainly button controlled and weapon power is determined by how long you hold the fire button. Snails can be much more finely positioned and aimed with thier stylus based controls. Snails also gives you the option to switch snails as many times as you want in a turn. You can reposition all your snails defensively and fire in one turn if you're fast enough. One big difference in gameplay is that after you fire Snails gives you 5 seconds to move your firing snail into a defensive position. These differences add a lot to Snails that you don't get with Worms.

Sounds:
Very similar in both. I think Snails has better music. Worms has audible taunts. The comments in Snails are funnier and more creative but text.

Price:
Snails $9.95
Worms $24.95

For me, Snails is just more enjoyable to play. But it's very close. Once the multi-player online for WM2003 is fixed and I find some people online to play with I'll be enjoying Snails that much more. :D

I have to say I play the NES emulator almost more than anything. My boyfriend is a gaming geek himself, and we had ourselves a laugh one day over our various techy toys while waiting for his car to be worked on at the mechanic's. Right now, at this moment, I only have a couple of games installed:
Bejeweled
Pocket War

Bejeweled has survived a couple of hard resets.

Pocket War...I read that this is similar to Empire which I played way too much on my Atari ST. Well, it seems to have a bit of a learning curve and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. I'm willing to stick with it for a little while in case it really has Empire-like gameplay, and besides, I paid a lot for it (over $20...I forget the exact price) so can't give up yet.

I don't have it installed right now, but Warlords II was a game that I played constantly for more than six months. I just wish PPC Studios will hurry up with Warlords III.

Do you think Warlords II was worth the fairly high amount they want for it? I've been tempted, I must admit, and have oaid $30 before for productivity software (Repligo springs to mind) but my mind seems to balk at paying that sort of money for a PPC game, for some reason. Probably a bit silly, really...

Am currently playing the Legend of Zelda for the SNES on my iPAQ when I'm bored at work. Just finished Super Metroid for the 100th time. Really not into the games made for the pocket pc.
What SNES emulator are you using? I tried Morphgear, but it was ok, but not perfect.

Here's my contribution to the list:
ICBM
Jawbreaker (builtin)
Kevtris
PocketNester
Snails 2.0
Solitaire (builtin)
Space Trader

And my ROMS (all legal):
Metroid
Star Tropics
Star Wars
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda 2
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 4 (2 US)
Final Fantasy 6 (3 US)

I wish I could get lgeneral (PPC port of the Panzer General clone) to work on my Axim, but no luck yet. It would be cool if someone ported the original Panzer General to the PPC. That's one of my all-time favorite games. Civilization too would be great.

What's the website for the lgeneral ppc conversion? I'd love to give it a whirl.
