Hello, I am wondering how to access files located on my home desktop/laptop on my PPC when I am on campus or at a coffeehouse. I would like to access the many videos i have encoded for my PPC when i have downtime. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

share the directories on your computer then start file explorer and hit the hand holding a server button and type in:

\\yourcomp\sharename

and you should be able to browse. If you want to actually map shares to a local folder lookup pocketlan theres also a freeware bit of kit that maps shares but cant remember its name off hand :)

so what you are asking, is how do I share my computer with the entire internet...

basically, connect to the IP address..., but the IPs are probably dynamic... and remove any firewall software

\\124.18.1.132\sharename (for example)

but there are so many security issues with that it makes me cringe

I agree. It's hard enough to set up a half-secure remote connection with a laptop or desktop, let alone a Pocket PC.

You could run VNC on your home system and Pocket PC, but that might lag like all get out. :?

I have been thinking about the same thing, what seems like an option would be to run some type of ftp server like filezilla. I could log in via terminal sevices and turn it on then logout and download movies via ftp to the sd card. I thinl resco will do ftp downloads.?.
Has anyone tried this? Feedback appreciated.

I think the main pain is making your home PC a static IP or running something like noIP.com . That means you need to program your router or remove it from your network.

FTP over a Pocket PC is also kind of a pain, but it works.

Let us know how things work out!

One of the best ways is to setup a VPN. If you can get it to work (I haven't with my Linksys router), your Pocket PC will be treated like it's within your network even when you're on the outside at a WiFi hotspot.
