Running a Dell Inspiron 3700, w/ Win98SE + a Axim X30 (w/ wifi).
ActiveSync has stopped recognizing the Axim.
Error message: Your device was not detected.
Your mobile device has not set up a connection with this computer.

Have been trying to fight this for several days now, without luck.
Best guess is that ActiveSync is leaving a file / registry entry SOMEWHERE that interfers with establishing a 'new' Partnership, but have obviously not been able to ferret out where that is.

The Axim connects fine with another machine, which implies basic setup of Axim is OK and that USB cable is OK.

The 3700 DEVICE MANAGER shows a listing for the Axim when it is physically connected:
Windows CE USB Devices - Dell Axim USB Sync,
and Properties proclaim that "This device is working properly" (HA!)

So USB drivers on 3700 don't appear issue (and other USB devices work fine), and further confirmation that USB cable to Axim is OK.

Leads to presumption of Software problem on the 3700, but ? is WHERE?

Have uninstalled / reinstalled ActiveSync (at least 6 times)
Have ran both VCOM and Norton WinDr to remove orphan Registy entries.
Have manually searched through Registry, using a variety of likely sounding search terms (Axim; ActiveSync; Partner; WindowsCE...) as well as looking for specific keys mentioned by other uses as being involved with ActiveSync.
Numerous reboots / soft resets of 3700 / Axim.
Have searched for / removed (or renamed/zipped) known ActiveSync files and folders.
Have removed the Registry entry for Axim USB connection (doing so causes the "found new hardware" routine to run upon rebooting & reconnecting USB cable to Axim).
The "Connection Settings" tab in ActiveSync states COM, USB, and Network connections are all avail - along with the "Your device..." error message noted above (after running "Get Connected").

Most of above have been done multiple times, in multiple sequences, and with frequent re-boots to clear memory.
Still no luck.

-> Cannot remove Partnerships in ActiveSync as that menu item is grayed out.

Any suggestions? Any similar problems?

Thanks!
