http://akiba.sorobangeeks.com/news_8588.html

HP has clarified a problem I've been having with my Pocket PC. Apparently, they aren't designed to be slept on. 8O

Other useful tidbits include "Don't bang your iPAQ against hard objects." I would like to see the next page of this manual. It is sure to include gems like:

• Don't put your iPAQ under water.
• Don't place your iPAQ under your car's tire to keep it from rolling down a hill.
• Don't use your iPAQ for target practice.
• Don't use your iPAQ as a shim in a Terex Titan 282B if it isn't sitting level.
• Don't use your iPAQ as an ad hoc thermal tile on the Space Shuttle

Any other things we shouldn't do with our iPAQs? :bangin:

hahaha.... well, i actually do sleep on my Dell X5. Sometimes, it gets lonely and cries in middle of the night (it has nightmares of an X30 taunting it), so I take it and it sleeps on my bed.
Seriously though, I put my X5 under my pillow and sleep on it most of the time. There just isn’t much room around my bed to put the PDA after I use before I sleep, so under the pillow it goes. Never had a problem before. My head isn’t heavy enough to crack the screen (maybe I really am an airhead..), and I’ve even charged it under there without causing it to combust and engulf my head in flames while I sleep.

Do not use iPAQ as a floatation device.
Do not use iPAQ as an alarm clock.
Do not use iPAQ as a marital aid.
Do not make iPAQ an offer it can't refuse.
Do not use iPAQ 4700 as paving stone in your driveway, even though it would fit right in.
Do not taunt iPAQ.

Drat! Beat me to it. (only mine involved not shoving it up a part of their anatomy, and I'm not talking about noses)

Stylus is not designed for cleaning ear.

It works just fine if you use the proper end. I've used the back end of my 1915 stylus in that fashion. I don't want to use the pointy end as I have one of those metal ones with a pen and a removable tip... Imagine walking into the ER and having to explain that one. 8O

Warning: Do not eat.
Stylus is not designed for cleaning ear.
Do not swing PDA on cable, PDA is not a mace.
Caution: reactive, do not add HCl.

Do not attempt to recharge iPaq battery by connecting with jumper cables to car.

Do not inflate.

If iPaq shatters, do not impale yourself or others with shards.

Do not iPaq throw long distances.

If iPaq becomes very hot so that it is burning your hands, turn off and do not handle until it cools.

Do not use sharp objects (knives, forks, pins) as a replacement for stylus as this may result in damage to the screen.

I hate to admit it but more than once I used my old 36xx as a coaster when somebody offered me a drink but nothing to put it on. I'm sure hypnosis would reveal severe beatings (which I've conveniently shut out) as the result of early childhood non-coaster use -- what else could explain such a stupid thing to do. I rationalized that "at least it was screen down..." If only I'd had an unread iPaq user manual, I could have used THAT as a coaster.

HP has clarified a problem I've been having with my Pocket PC. Apparently, they aren't designed to be slept on. 8OI know that's supposed to be funny, but I sometimes listen to music on my iPaq as I doze off (and then have the PHM Plus! Sleep Timer shut off my pocket pc after a given time). Anyway, I could see myself turning and laying on it by accident at night. With the included hard case/cover flap I haven't had anything bad happen yet though.

I'm loving people's responses as much as the absurdity of what's in the manual.

OTOH, never underestimate the stupidity of people. I used to work for a company that used to make slow cookers. They had warnings about not leaving the cooker unattended, which is how many people actually used them. Yes, you put some soup or a casserole in the pot when you left for work, it would be done when you got home. But gee, do you really think the company is going to pay to rebuild your house because you put something in the cooker, left for a 2 week vacation and it eventually caught fire?

I worked across the hall from the lady who took these calls. Heard some real doozies during my time there.

LOL!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Of course, you often see things like this in manuals also:

"Do not use iPaq under water.

WARNING: iPaq is not an approved flotation device!"

You know - tell you not to use item for some purpose, and then immediately warn you about the absurdity of it......

At least this manual appears reasonably well written; it could have been:

"It is to be using in bed iPaq not while sleeping." ...or something similar. I get a pretty good chuckle out of some of the absurd translations I've seen in some manuals.....

ok, I just came across this thread. Funny thing is last night, I set my alarm to go off on my 4150. I didn't check display message in settings so for some reason I couldn't get the alarm to stop (even with a soft reset). Well I needed a few more minutes of beauty sleep so I tried sticking it under my pillow, too loud. So I put it under my stomach and fell back asleep.

It worked fine today at work so I guess I was lucky...:)

nu·cle·ar ( P ) Pronunciation Key (nkl-r, ny-)
adj.
Biology. Of, relating to, or forming a nucleus: a nuclear membrane.
Physics. Of or relating to atomic nuclei: a nuclear chain reaction.
Using or derived from the energy of atomic nuclei: nuclear power.
Of, using, or possessing atomic or hydrogen bombs: nuclear war; nuclear nations.

No entry found for nucular. .

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't get your comment.

Nucular
Kel Richards writes

If you are irritated every time George W Bush (or anyone else for that matter) pronounces the word nuclear as nucular you may be depressed to learn that this is listed as an alternative pronunciation the Merriam-Webster Dictionary – and has been since 1961. To everyone who protests the Merriam-Webster people send out a defensive 400 word letter arguing that they don’t list nucular as an acceptable alternative – just as an alternative, meaning that it is “a pronunciation variant that occurs in educated speech but that is considered by some to be questionable or unacceptable.” They go on to say they do this because of the widespread use of nucular among educated speakers including scientists, lawyers, professors, congressmen, US cabinet members, and at least four US presidents: Eisenhower, Carter, Clinton and Bush. My experience is that people who say nucular do so because they are simply unable to wrap their tongue around nuclear and so resort to making it a parallel with words like circular and spectacular

You said nuclear and president in the same sentence so naturally I thought of Bush who has the annoying habit of pronouncing it nucular. I don't care if it's in the dictionary or not, it's WRONG and it's irritating! Plenty of words that educated people don't use are in the dictionary, it doesn't make them proper :)

Of course not! Only the Jornada 430SE is approved by MI5 for use in conjunction with thermonuclear devices...

Apparently, the world will probably be saved because the big red button will spontaneously hard-reset in the heat of battle...

And yes, Bush & Clinton both have had their share of annoying soundbites, with Nucular on the list with such illustrious quotes such as "I did not have an affair..." and the like.

Lighten up, I am using a pen for the last 6 months - it is much better than the stylus - just try it. The stylus is so small and you can't write on paper with it. Friends of mine put some foil over the screen for protection, but I dont, you just have to be careful and it's all right.

I carried it in a inooch (http://www.inooch.com/) case. But as I said, the lcd was broken on the inside, the touchscreen was intact. If it had banged into something that should have broken too. HP said that I had twisted the ipaq. Anyway, I bought a replacement screen and replaced the broken lcd myself. It has not broken since (same treatment as before). The only conclusion I could draw is that hp customer support still has something to learn about what customer support is and that I would not buy any HP product anymore
