What's with everyone getting worked up about processor speed?

The 6315's processor is fast enough to handle web access, email, every single Pocket PC game Ive thrown at it (including things like AOE and Flux), MP3s, basic movie viewing, etc.

So just WHAT do you people need so desperately a faster processor for? Cracking Russian military codes? Calculating pi to a billion digits? Searching for extraterrestrial intelligence?

Sorry, but the 6315's processor is sufficient for 99% of things you'd want to do on a pocket PC. The battery life is amazing -- went without a charge for a full day of heavy use.

Personally, I'm quite content sacrificing the ability to crack Russian military codes in order to give me another 3+ hours of gaming, browsing, emailing, and movie watching.

Here, here! My thoughts exactly. No speed issues at all for me, and I compare this unit to my i-mate with a 400mz chip. For the things I use the PDA for, this unit seems to fill the bill nicely.

Now, to find an acceptable case!

I agree. Unless this (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31634) warrants a debate over the device.

In Pre-release I kept saying the processor speed wasn't going to matter. No one will release a dead slow PPC nowadays - but optomization is a real valid alternative to save battery life.

I left PPCPE a year ago when I needed to dial 911 on my T-Mobile PPC Phone Edition and it locked up on me. I had to reboot it 2-3 times a day, and it was sometimes very unresponsive. How does the HP compare in responsiveness and overall performance?

Thanks for your input...

My IMATE (XDA II) has never locked up on me when I have tried to make a call, not once. And I definately don't need to reboot it twice a day or once a day, or once a week!

I haven't found any issues with the speed of any of the apps or with the phone system. I don't how TI and HP did it but it does a good job with the OMAP and 64MB of RAM.

Thanks for the response, but I don't think I was clear. I was asking what the iPAQ behaves like. Any lockups, sluggishness the way the old PPC Phone Editions behaved.

Thanks again,
Scott

could you elaborate on "basic " movie viewing? One of the things holding me back is results of how well this unit plays movies (converted dvds using pocket divx) with betaplayer. About the only way I watch movies anymore is on my 4355. I am very curious to hear feedback from those who have been using the 6315 now that it's out.
