The inimitable pt picked one up and put up some very nice pictures over at Engadget, including shots of the thumbboard that you might want to check out. One picture of note:

Yup, it looks like the iPAQ 6315 has a yellow-tinted screen like some other recent units. I've played with a 4150 extensively as of late, and while it doesn't actively bother me, it does puzzle me why OEMs keep on releasing displays like this. Still, from reviews posted in our CompUSA thread, people seem to really like the unit -- especially the battery life. 8)

Other than the somewhat lower brightness then I am used to, I can't really detect any yellow-tint.

edit: Nevermind, just detected it  Why is that a problem again? It's only visible when viewing at an angle.

I did not have success. I watched the last one in the greater Atlanta area get sold Friday at about 2:00. (I was right behind him asking if they had any in the back....last one....check the computer....nope).

Now I am hoping I will see one in my travels this week or that Atlanta gets a restock.

Yep, I saw it right away on mine. I'm in your boat -- it's unnoticeable unless you tilt the darn thing.

This picture doesn't look as ugly as in HP and Tmobile.

But, anyway, not my type. So big phone close my ear, no way! 0X

Use a Bluetooth headset; I never hold my 6315 to my head, no reason to!

Can anyone confirm that the 6300 will not be coming to Sprint before I go out and buy a VGA device? Would've held out if it was coming, but highly doubt it...anyway is the Daxian stronger or weaker than the 6300? I think the Daxian Cu928 is supposed to eventually make it to Sprint....I figure by the time they get it right I could have enjoyed a nice VGA device and will by that time be able to by a smaller VGA PDA/Phone in 24 months.
thanks

The 6300 won't make it in its current incarnation, as it's GSM and Sprint is CDMA. The CU928 has a better chance, but who knows when it'll come out. :|

Congrats to those who got one. I would LOVE one except I seriously doubt I will get one. due to lack of fundage! :D I could not even afford to renew my PPCT account since I am BROKE!

Janak, what angle do you read from? I have a 4355 (pretty much the same as a 4150, but...oh whatever, you should know what it is by now) and I CAN detect yellowness if I view it at a really odd angle but if I am holding it in a natural position as I normally would, I don't notice it at all. In fact, in the picture posted, I don't notice the yellow tint and if you actually use the device at that angle, you have more problems then my bank account does right now! :D There's no way to make a screen cheap and have it look great from every angle. Maybe you would like to have the HAST screens(which were great INSIDE at any angle) back which are unviewable outside?? Nahh....just kidding!

No it looks like I will probably be going for a Sony Ericcson t610 from Tmobile as it's the one I can afford that will work for me. If the time comes and I can't get that, I will just have to be satisfied for only using GPRS with my laptop using a cable on a free phone. :(

I have to testify to the longgggggggggggg battery life....this thing is great! I was fortunate enough to have found one in St Louis. The battery life is far better than my XDA II. And the processor speed is comparable to the intel pxa255's performance.

Only complaint I have so far is the static I get with the phone in use.
Other than that it is a great machine.

NO. Simply NO. I’m sick of this. I don’t know what the reason is that OEM’s are releasing such screens but AFAIC there is NO excuse. I don’t care if its triple’s the battery life. A good screen is high on my priority list with battery life second, and speed third.
I’m not spending half a grand or more on any PDA or PDA phone that is using a cheap screen and any screen that acts like this IS cheap in my book since it does this yellow crap. :?

I've seen too many people drool over this device and shrug off its potential cons and frankly I'm trying to figure out why. The name iPaq doesn't make me dismiss problems with a device.

The reason I’m irked about this is because my company is going to stop paying for my Nextel plan so I’ve been looking at other options. More specifically a PPC: PE and I’m NOT impressed with what I’ve seen and played with so far.

Gorkon,

You can get a T610 from Amazon and get paid for it...$150, which should pay for basic T-zones access-internet and email for a year or two and get you a Bluetooth dongle or PC/CF card for you laptop and 4355 so you can surf and email without wires...

And thats not all you can also get a Jabra 250 BT headset for $30 off...for $49.99 and then only get 1 year of free T-zones...not bad...

Congrats to those who got one. I would LOVE one except I seriously doubt I will get one. due to lack of fundage! :D I could not even afford to renew my PPCT account since I am BROKE!

More bad news, T-Mobile USED US! Comp USA selling them across the board, went to a T-Mobile store they had 8 in back, showed me the phone but said can not sell it to me until the 26th. She said she just got a memo from corporate and anyone selling this phone before the 26th will be "in big trouble" whoooo, I'm shaking all over and so is everyone else who's selling them. Further more she said they were instructed to use these phones to get new activations first then they would become available to customer! UNBELIEVABLE! It gets worse! I Spoke to T-Mobile supervisor today and said hey what happened to the get it before everyone else. I mean everyone's getting it before us who signed up for the "SO CALLED" get your before everyone else. His official response was there must be a mix up and what do you want me to do about it. I thought that’s rude, thanks a lot! He went on to say they don't have an official release date, and have not been told one yet...what a second? I said your stores, some comp USA's, and HP themselves all say the 26th, what do you mean there's no know release date? He said get this; they are "ALL" mistaken. I said so what about all us who were promised to get it first? He said hold on a second. He came back and said everyone who signed up will have there's shipped out to them on the day of release. Smells like BS to me. So here's the bottom line. The device by all parties claims to be the 26th, so on the 26th all locations with stock have to green light to sell, and according to T-Mobile all us who signed up to get it before anyone else will have it shipped to us on this date to here's the real SH%ty part within 5 BUSINESS DAYS! from the release date! So not only are we not getting it before all the comp USA, and T-Mobile dealer sales, we are going to get it in-fact LAST!!! 5 DAYS AFTER ANYONE ELSE CAN JUST GO INTO A STORE ON THAT DATE AND PICK IT UP! This is the biggest F#CK-UP I have ever seen in customer service. We're getting SCREWED here guys! T-MOBILE USED US! Here’s the only logical conclusion one can come to.....They used all us baiting us with a false promise they never intended to keep to get a pulse on the initial volume they needed to order to get the ball rolling. They used us to not order too many or too little and figured we'd just go pick one up the same time or a week later and wouldn't care once we had it. They have made no offer of resolution to all the loyal customers that played their little waiting game and do not intend to make it right with them either. Just an "ooohps we're so sorry" empty line and "deal with it." p.s. thanks for helping us get the initial order right, wink wink. Thanks for taking one for the team. This is a call to arms gentlemen; T-Mobile owes us OUR phone before anyone else or it's false advertising. What do you think? Should we get our phones now and everyone else have to wait longer, should we get compensated, should the early sellers be punished, do we deserve reconciliation for being lied to, and possibly used? What's worse they've even instructed their sales teams to use this item to get new activations FIRST over CUSTOMERS. Who knows what line you'll get when you go to try and pick yours up at the same time the "NEW" customer is buying theirs.... What should we do about this boys? Should we just take it with a "Thank you sir! can I have another!" or should we do something? What do you think? Seriously.

Current T-Mobile deal in my area is 74 with a 100 dollar rebate. By the time I get the first bill, I'd have the money to pay for it with the rebate.

First, take a CHILL pill. Second, did you pay any money? No? Then what makes you so privleged to get yours first? I'd feel sorry for ya except this whole post just sounds like a whining little baby. Hey I want one too but probably won't be getting one right at this moment. Are you going to die because you did not get your's first?? GEESH! Lay off the caffiene man!

The deal from Amazon.com is that you get the phone is free plus you get $150.01 back in rebates...plus $30 off a bluetooth headset...

The deal is you pay $99 for the phone and get $250 back in rebates...which is more than enough to pay a few months of service and add on basic data services.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/wireless/B0000AGRYX/

Amazon is pretty quick with their rebates, I think got mine in 2 weeks, but then again that was a year ago...

It seems to be the better deal, but if you want to go local that deal isn't bad either.

Use a Bluetooth headset; I never hold my 6315 to my head, no reason to!

Not that I would ever use a PDA as a cellphone but I was wondering, do you wear the Bluetooth headset wherever you go day and night waiting for a call to come in, or when the big boss calls do you say, "hold on a minute while I get my Bluetooth headset turned on and bonded and then get the call transferred over to the headset". "What's that boss, I'm fired. OK. Yes, I can hear you now".

Do I really need to carry a device twice as large as my T610 along with a Bluetooth headset AND a charger just to have a single device that can do far less than than a full featured PPC. I don't think so. This sounds more like W?BIC than really being practical.

I work at a compusa and the day we got the 6315s we put them on the floor. There was no instruction not to sell them, as you all can tell, it is company wide. LOL. Anyway, we charged one up and have been playing with it. It is ok, much slower than my 4155, and the ringer is so so so so quiet. There is no way it can be heard if it was in your pocket. Also the wifi is horrible, it drops the connection all the time, it is impossible for it to stay connected. Stupid thing, I don't like it one bit. I was expecting this super phone, and instead it isn't much better then my old t-mobile sidekick, which also was a piece of crap. 10 handset exchanges in one year, thats why I don't use it anymore. Anyway, the 6315 is not very impressive to me or my co-workers. Also, there was talk that it could do voice over wifi, but there is no way to do that.

I saw it at compusa. I worked there before so the guys allowed me to put in my tmobile card from my Sony 610 and play with it. Not bad. I would've bought one if:
1) It had a VGA screen
2) The camera was at least a 1.2MP or a CCD lens like the new sony phones. Makes the biggest difference in picture quality.
3) Mustn't forget the flash.
4) Consumer IR. But that's just me. I have a Ipaq2215 so I like that feature.

I did notice some things with the phone.
1) It would find my BT jabra headset, but wouldn't use it with the phone feature.
2) It has vibra support, but never called the phone so I dunno how strong it is.
3) It was 100% charged at the store. Played with it for about 15minutes. Battery dropped to 97%. Not bad I guess. The XDA II I had for a few days would drop a 1% for almost every minute I had it on.

I could buy one and pick it up. BUT they had to sell me a "normal" tmobile plan. He told me to come back on teh 26th and Tmobile will have special plans for the phone and he would move me over to those. Btw, he was telling all his customers that. He sold 1 while I was there.

While I don't use a PPC Phone, I did use a Treo 300 for a while (I know, it's not apples vs apples!) and it was not very favorable, mostly due to the flip which is not involved in these devices. You're right about the size though, having a small phone is nice.

As for the headset, I use a Moto v600 with a Jabra 250BT. The phone can be set so that the two automatically pair when in range. So if I leave the phone on my belt, when I get in the car (where I typically use the headset), they automatically pair and the headset becomes default. When I go into the office or my house, etc., the phone switches back. The battery life on the Jabra is long so that is not an issue. I would assume you can automatically pair the new HP with the headset as well, so there's really no need for any setup when you want to make/take a call.

What I can't figure out is the 1715 doesn't have nearly the yellow tint that this thing has. I wonder why they don't use the same screen in every PDA?

I didn't dispute it:

What I want to know, more than anything, is why OEMs do continue to release such screens. Put one of them side-by-side by my e805, and it just doesn't make any sense to me -- the e805 is very bright and white. Is it because the screen is cheaper, has better side-by-side viewing angles, for brighter colors, or what? An explanation is better than nothing, right?

That said, I wouldn't use that as justification for or against a Pocket PC as they stand today if it had the other features I wanted.
