I'm gonna cry.
Real bad.
My storage card is gone. There's nothing left on it. Zero, zlich. How could that have happened? I did a soft reset and afterwards everything was gone. Completely and utterly.

Why me? Why?

Are you 100% sure? Does your card still work though?

Perhaps the device is just not reading it correctly. Try soft resetting again or alternatively, using a media card reader on your PC to see if you can access the card.

And if you see the card on your PC, try running a check on it.

(By the way, what brand and type of card do you have?)

It happens. Pull out the card, reset again, and then stick the card back in.

You (hopefully) should be good again.

I've had this happen twice to me, both with my SanDisk cards. Once with my 256 and once with my 512. :(

I now back up my SD card weekly (it helps that my new laptop has an SD slot).

The first time everything was lost. The second time though I was able to see the data again later that same day. Truthfully I have no idea why though. The only thing I did differently the second time was to look at the card with my laptop (it didn't show anything) and then put it back into my iPAQ. For some reason the info was back. I wasn't confident with it so I immediately copied the data off of it and formated the card.

That was only a week ago so I can't say if it's a recurring issue or not.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

That's why I don't store critical programs data on my storage card. I think using the new 4700's big 80MB ROM would be a better choice (even if it might possibly be a tad slower - anybody hear the one about the tortise and the hare). When is the last time you lost your ROM?

Many people have had issues with files in ROM just dissapearing or even the ROM space itself dissapearing... so I don't think you're any safer. You're probably worse off as if your PDA is physically incapacitated you'll lose access to your ROM. An SD card pops out.

I've had 3 h1940s with ROM issues. I just don't touch the ROM space anymore. Everyone else can beta test.

Well, there was nothing left on it. The card itself worked fine. But it was totally erased, like I had formatted it or something. I didn't have any TOTALLY important stuff on there, just a lot, and it's all recoverable because I'll find it again some way or the other, but HELL IS THIS EVER ANNOYING. Maybe I should backup my stupid SD card weekly as well, and not just the Main Memory (and THAT backup file was also stored on the SD card.) Maybe I should invest and get the update from Sprite, so at least my backup is going to be safe. Can you backup your storage card too, with Sprite Pro?

Btw, it's a Lexar brand. Never had trouble like that before, EVER.
And thanks for the helpful suggestions. *big sigh*.

Did you try it in a card reader too?

Sprite backup's full version is worth the money (and it's discounted if you happen to have an ipaq). It will backup your PPC and SD card to your PC quite easily, but you have to actually manually do it every time. I haven't done it since 6/27... doing one now! The automatic backups to SD card do work great. However it will keep on going until you have no space on your SD card. The automatic backups are executable so you don't have to worry about having the newer Sprite on your PDA somewhere to restore.

I agree. I've lost some files stored on the ROM in my 4150. It happened only once, but it was painful enough so now I store important files in RAM only. (Yes, I had problem with SD card before as well.)

Is it a 2210/2215 you use?

I had the same thing a few weeks ago with a 6 mo. old Panasonic card. Thought the card was faulty so bought a new Lexar card. Put it in, reloaded the card, and IT was wiped. :?

Seems the 221x series has a funky SD slot. I reflashed the ROM and loaded everything else again, this time NOT using the SDIO update and it's been fine since. I'm tempted to try the Panasonic card again since it's faster than the Lexar... either that or the slot is still acting funky.

I don't remember whether or not the card worked in a reader... I'm thinking it was acting funky in a card reader too so I bought the new card. If you have anything on there you'd like to recover, give the trial of MediaRecover a shot (www.mediarecover.com) I used it the other day on a friend's memory card from her digital camera and it worked flawlessly, though the trial will only let you recover one file at a time (painfully slow) The registered version is faster in that it lets you "select all". Not sure if it works for other types of files besides media-types.

edit: Ironically, the next thread below this one for me this morning is your Yes I do love it THAT much (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31296).

You know...SanDisk cards sure are funny! There have been so many instances in the past where they've done something queer.

Run it with a scandisk program for PPC or PC. It should recover all the "lost clusters"

The fun part is trying to figure out the extensions and filenames for each one

For the record, I've never had a Sandisk crap out on me. Only once actually...though it's been sitting there with data on it, unmoved, for at least 3 months. I use it to store backups of my backup

The ones that have died on me were both no-name brands. Sticking to brand-names from now on.

Well, I spend the whole evening rebuilding everything, and it's ok, but I am going to buy the update from Sprite.

I have a h4150, and the card is a 256Mb from Lexar. And yes, I still do love it that much (after all, it wasn't the pocket pc that crapped out on me but the card!) ;)

i have the full version but can't find out how it backs up the storage card also to the desktop... i'd be so happy to figure this out because the same thing happened to me - i even started another thread to find a way to backup my storage card w/ the rest of my PPC.

Why not just backup the entire contents of your card on your desktop? Use a card reader...you don't need sprite for this :)

Or you can just copy the contents while the iPaq is docked in the cradle.

I don't know if you have the basic version of Sprite on your PPC... but I do on my Hp2200... I can back-up whatever I want including my cards... I then use my card reader to transfer it to my desktop where I have a folder that holds all my compressed back-up files...

The reason I use the card reader is strictly for transfer speed.

For those that don't know... you need to uncheck Persistent Storage in the options... in order to get access to your storage cards and Ipaq file store...
