<a href="http://www.ipaqabilities.com/iaforums/viewtopic.php?t=281">http://www.ipaqabilities.com/iaforums/viewtopic.php?t=281</a><br /><br />iPAQabilites has found some pictures of what is rumored to be the iPAQ rw6100, a CDMA Pocket PC Phone. It has a slide-out 10 key touchpad and built in 1.1 megapixel camera.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040818-iPAQ6100.jpg" /><br /><br />Other rumored features are WiFi support, 1xRTT, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM which contains WM2003SE. Bluetooth is not included.<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> <a href="http://www.ipaqabilities.com/iaforums/viewtopic.php?t=286">More pictures and specs here</a>. Looks like this would be a rebranded LG SC8000, which we <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19510">posted on earlier</a>. As of this moment, we have no clue if it's coming to North America or not.

Personally I like the slide out thumb keyboard better than the 10-key (ala MDA III versus this). And what's with HP putting all this ROM in the device? Sure it survives a hard reset but it's much slower and can't be sed to run programs (it's only storage memory, RAM is storage/program memory)..

Nice, but where the heck did this come from? Am I the only one totally surprised by this?

The biggest problem I personally have with the iPaq 6300 is the lack of a built in keypad / thumb-board. I dial a lot and don't want to tap the screen that much. The fact that this has a nice, sliding keypad with big keys is interesting and good (IMO).

Hmm, WiFi but no Bluetooth? Weird. I'd probably rather have Bluetooth than WiFi, but its a tough choice (no one should be forced to choose). Odd that it doesn't have Bluetooth being a phone and all. OHHHH its CDMA....that explains it. I beginning to believe CDMA and Bluetooth are incompatible technologies

the screen is way to small. I like the idea of having connectivity in my PPC but I hate the idea of having Office software in my phone ;) more when the screen is so small ;)

Funny, Sprint thinks they already figured that out. Of course, Verizon doesn't seem to think so.

anyone else think this is fake? Why would this pocket pc have a number pad when you can do that with software? And if it is real, imagine how long it would be 8O

I do like the idea of a CDMA phone though with wifi :D

It looks too sexy to be an iPaq. Send it back to development for "improvement". :)

Guy 2:"We could remove the bluetooth chips. No one ever uses that... and put in a smaller battery."

Guy1:"Your a genious Rick!"

CDMA, and no BT. Sorry -- not for me.

In any case, this doesn't really agree with the design philosophy of the new line, nor the immediately previous line. It looks more like a Samsung (especially the blue button in the middle of a circuilar D-pad).

Indeed, Verizon has FINALLY (its the second half of 2004 folks) released a Bluetooth phone. While it took them FOREVER and a day, we must give posative reinforcement when its due.

Rumor has it they're rebranding another device -- the LG SC8000 (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19510).

Hmmm... I just think having a hard keypad is redundant. I make no less than 10 calls a day on my phone. My screen still looks great

Cool device. Looks like vapourware

this one is like more rounded, and the botton looks more to an ipaq than that one.

A number pad and no bluetooth? Why make a PPC Phone at all if you're going to do that. If I buy a phone, it will need bluetooth to use a headset. If I buy a pocket PC, then it will need someway to type in letters. I can write numbers or use software to do any of the ten digits, it's just hard to do long(er) emails without a keyboard. As for the camera, I'm one of those that like the idea. It's nice to have just for quick stuff (like pictures right after a fender bender.)

ok so this is big!! And I agree no slideout keyboard, no thanks esp on something this big... Anyone have docs on BT not being compatible with CDMA. I submit that it has something more to do with the fact that Sprint and Verizon did not want BT users using there B/W for surfing and e-mail on PDAs and laptops. 1X cost them more money than GPRS data becuase 1X using more B/W. Now that CDMA carriers have a better hold on things they can looses up a bit.

I was being sarcastic  Sprint and Verizon's refusal to offer Bluetooth enabled phones would make you think the two technologies were incompatible even though they are obviously not.

How hard could that be to understand?

Looks like this would be a rebranded LG SC8000, which we posted on earlier.
Looking at the iPaq and the LG photos these two appear to be only slightly similar. If the iPaq is a rebranded LG then it has been re-cased as well!

No matter what the cost, if Sprint get's this phone.........I'LL HAVE IT!!! I guess it does not hurt that I manage a Sprint Store

Am I the only one who think this thing is fabulous??? Who needs BT?? Who needs a thumb-keyboard?? This would be the IDEAL device for me. Screen is not too small (seems bigger than MPx). I could fall in love this this thing.

But then again, someone said the "V" word. And if it's not vaporware, then it's probably never going to come to the North American market, maybe US but NEVER EVER to Canada.

I'm depressed now.

You should add Telus to the list, as Telus and Verizon are indeed one and the same backward company.

I just noticed something.

Is it just me, or do the two green LEDs at the top right corner of the device look phony?

For one thing, I don't think any device would have two LEDs of the same color, let alone LEDs that shine uniformly out of the lens cover.

While it seems that most of us here might use BT headsets the majority of people with cell phones don't. It's not about the minority its about the majority and they use wired headsets or none at all. Those are the ones their selling to. Unforunately manufacturers don't offer more than one version of their phones (for example CDMA w/BT, CDMA w/o BT, GSM w/BT, GSM w/o BT) to satisfy everyone.

Personally I'm with karinatwork. It's a great device but I need BT to use my headset (cellphones w/cords are  IMO... I like wireless in every sense of the word) and GSM.

I think it's a pretty cool device. I won't buy it cause I use GSM, but I appreciate the effort.

Lack of Bluetooth is a killer though...

Thei-Mate SP3 is my dream phone... Beautiful and brainy!

While this is true, the majority of people wont buy a "smartphone" either. Those who do would certainly know about bluetooth headsets, and possibly have one already. They may certainly want to get one in the future, and because phones are generally not upgradeable, would be tying themselves into a BT-less future for at least a year.

In UK they are currently giving away bluetooth headsets with mobile phone contracts. I think most people will be sporting them soon (which is going to make walking down the street even more disconcerting :))

That sounds like typical HP thinking as of late. Excuse me while I pine over the demise of Compaq. *bows head in remembrance of the dead* ;)

This does look like the best new "IPAQ" being released....
But it seems it is not an IPAQ at all but a LG SC8000, which is no bad thing given the way HP are currently treating their customers. I want one of these! :D so I did some surfing and it seems the LG does have Bluetooth, as the following Korean site shows the Bluetooth configuration screens - in Korean of course!

Yes this LG SC8000 model (that you linked to) does have Bluetooth, but the LG model that HP Korea is using does not have Bluetooth. Just look at what HP did to the TI WANDA reference design which the H6300 is based on - it doesn't look like the same device.

Unfortunately, it is clearly listed in the HP Korea Quickspecs (http://www.ipaqabilities.com/images/forum/rw6100/rw6100.pdf) that Bluetooth is not included with the rw6100 series. This sucks cause Bluetooth would make this a sweet device.

Hopefully LG or hp comes out with a GSM version with ENGLISH OS and Bluetooth :) over all it looks more like a phone than the h6315 does and it has an integrated keypad which is really important in any device that has phone features.

For now I will stick with my trusty h2210 :)

The ipaq 6100 is real and is being sold as of today in Korea for a price of about 810,000KRW (Approx US$675).

The market price of this product is actually being set at 726,000KRW(Approx US$600) due to service provider rebates in Korea.

This is a CDMA PCS Phone (PCS = 1,800Mhz, Cellular = 800Mhz in Korea) and does include 802.11b wireless LAN function integrated with 1XEV-DO functions to support 2.4mbps data transfer rates, which is very common in Korean PCS and Cellular network.

The 6100 will be only sold for KT(Korea Telecom), PCS & Public Wireless Lan service provider in Korea and will not be sold to any other countries except Korea.

This phone is a variation of the LG SC8000 PDA phone and is manufactured by LG under the brand name of HP ipaq by ODM means.
