Hey could someone invite me to GMAIL? My current email address is...

[email protected]

I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

HAHAHAHAHA OMG LOL!!!!

I don't think Gmail has given out any new invites in a while! If you don't get one just wait patiently for the service to come out (I hear its close to its debut).

Sorry, I haven't got any invites since I got Gmail weeks ago.

I got a new one sometime last week. Sold it on ebay for $6.50.

If you really want one you can pick one up for about $3.00 durring non-high traffic hours. There is one available every few minutes.

Are these invites really that popular that people are willing to pay for them (albeit a very nominal fee)? Google was handing them out like candy up until very recently! The only thing I've seen grow more wildly and uncontrollably are my wife's zucchini plants!

My Wireless internet provider had its towers taken down due to some crazy citizens saying that it is "too big and ugly" and now we dont have email accounts only internet....

yeah, for those of us a bit slow on the sign-up... and for those of us who are OCD enough to not be able to wait for an official launch.

On a related note, anyone see the article Google may not get rights to GMail name (http://google.weblogsinc.com/entry/4732841284105839/)?

Already got the invite, obviously my need was greater than most. However, I lost the link - so if Chris would kindly send it again!

I've had my Gmail for a while now - good stuff! Now I can finally send large files to people without the need to clean out my account first. I hope they'll release it to the public soon, 'cause I'm tired of having to break up my files just so I can send them to a ****ty 2mb hotmail account

Darius Wey

Yeah. I love my Gmail too. And despite what is said at this site (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=17949), I still love Gmail for its nice crisp clean interface and fast speeds.

Unfortunately, my well has run dry of invites for a while, but if I get any, I'll be happy to send some out to those in "need".

bjornkeizers

I got a mail on that, but I think the 2 gig upgrade is only for paying customers who now have the Extra Storage subscription.

But IIRC, they were planning to upgrade the non-paying accounts to 100 mb each. Still, like you said, I love Gmail's interface and wouldn't ditch it for anything.

I have 3 invites to hand out. The 1st 3 to PM me will get them.

Please make sure you include an email addy where I can send the invite to.

I just sent out my last invite. No more left.

Hey all,

I've been seeing references to Gmail invites for awhile now, but can someone explain exactly what they are? I figured gmail was some form of web-based email, like Yahoo or Hotmail. Then why do you need invites to sign up? What is it about it that is so great, why would I switch from my other email services?

I know this may be a dumb question, but I've been curious for awhile now and the google website didn't really explain the invite part.

Thanks!

GMail is a web-based mail service built by Google. It has 1000mb of storage (500x what most free webmail hosts give), and lots of nifty features. Although the interface is currently done entirely within the browser, it feels like an application, due to some great DHTML. You need an invite because it's still in beta, and thus isn't public yet.

And it's by Google, and :google: is nothing but pure awesome, roit?

Jon Westfall

I had an invite last week and gave it to a friend. I suppose Google is getting a bit stingy with them lately.

Must be close to roll-out.

Jon.

Oh, thanks adwignall! That does explain it. Will it still be free after the beta stage? (assuming it's free now?) But you're right, Google is awesome, I'm sure its email program will be too

Gmail has been free to use since the first beta public rollouts commenced. It should still be free when it becomes public. Unless you have a Gmail account and use it regularly, no one would ever understand why you like Gmail so much. The interface is simply brilliant! 8)

based on the fact(s) that:

1. there are ads in the browser
2. the popularity of google increases page hits on these ads

i doubt they would change to a pay structure.

anyone else think this whole "beta" thing is an ingenious way to increase the allure of gmail and increase the demand for those not lucky enough to have an invite? this means more people talking about it (how many threads go on and on about yahoo or hotmail?), thus virtually guaranteeing more clicks on the ads that are used to fund the service? they could have launched it, and sure there would be people signing up for it BUT i think the whole beta thing and people scrambling for invites (even paying a couple bucks on ebay for them like i did) was carefully planned and so far has been very well executed!

That's the fashionable line of thinking, because of their targeted advertising. Most people who think along those lines aren't really understanding what GMail does -- that is, somehow automated computer scanning is a violation of privacy -- nevermind that all mail servers have to scan the email by definition.

He also mentioned something about they keep *everything* archived on their servers. I thought that was the idea behind GMail, that you didn't have to ever delete an email again. I thought that the person archived it, and you do because I see an archive button in GMail ;).

I don't think that AdSense is a violation of privacy. I don't see it ever becoming a problem. I like GMail.

There's also a "Delete Forever" button if it's already archived/spam, but Google still keeps a copy on its server, I'm told. But who cares? It's Google! I trust them

It's not kept permanently -- Google says it'll be deleted in a few weeks or months. People who cry "privacy!" at that don't realize that every company will have a similar policy for one reason: backup.

gmail rocks.

You are currently using 18 MB (2%) of your 1000 MB.

and it's only been 3 weeks, and I've deleted a few msgs. Spam filter works flawlessly, though you do have to check it periodically to make sure nothing gets put in there that doesn't belong... but at least I don't see the crap anymore.

on the "Unofficial Google Weblog" (http://google.weblogsinc.com/), there is a link to the full interview with the guys from Google that was printed in Playboy. Direct link is here (http://google.weblogsinc.com/entry/1894568467845334/). Very interesting, and actually pretty reassuring as well. :)
