I usually like to repeat a problem just before submitting a trouble report, to ensure that everything I report is accurate, and all error messages are verbatim. Unfortunately, I can't do that (see my earlier post about Avantgo hanging up after upgrading to WM2003). I'll report the problem as best I remember it.
I've always before used ActiveSync for getting Avantgo channels. I went on vacation the last two weeks of July, so I changed my Verizon plan to Unlimited NationalAccess and Broadband access so my daughter and I would have some internet access.
From the Avantgo home screen, I clicked on "tools," followed by "Modem sync." This wouldn't initiate a data session; I'd get a message stating, "No connection available." As a workaround, in IE I'd specify www.cnn.com, and refresh the page. This would prompt the i700 to dial the data access number. Once that happened, I'd return to Avantgo, select tools->Modem sync, and get the "Searching for updated web pages etc. etc."
Often I'd lose the broadband connection before Avantgo had finished syncing. Then Avantgo would only display the Channel Manager, with a screen telling me there were no channels available. It contained another "Modem sync" link. So, I'd check CNN again, then return to Avantgo and the Channel Manager screen, and "Modem sync."
Then, after about a week, after a failed sync, the Avantgo home page disappeared, replaced with a screen headed "Channel Manager," but containing the single sentence, "There are no channels available." No "tools" button, no "Modem sync," nothing but the info that no channels were available. I did without Avantgo until I returned home.
It's not an immediate problem, as I'm now back from vacation and never far from a PC with ActiveSync (and I can't do a wireless sync at the moment anyway [see my previous post]), but for future reference, what was I doing wrong? What should I have done to sync Avantgo while away from my desk?
TIA!
