<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2026' target='_blank'>http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2026</a><br /><br /></div>The XDA/MDA III (using GSM/GPRS, also known as the HTC "Blue Angel") will ship with both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, along with an integrated thumbboard. Interestingly, it will support seamless roaming between GPRS and Wi-Fi networks. Arne over at PPCW details the wireless features of the device and shows some cool screenshots.<br /><br /><i>"It seems this device will become a pretty complete one - for sure - thanks to it's GSM/GPRS, W-LAN and Bluetooth support, but also because HTC is working on a clever implementation how wireless connections are used..."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040815-PPCWHTCWireless.gif" /><br /><br />I'm curious how the iPAQ 6315 will support GPRS/Wi-Fi roaming, as well. Incidentally, Arne has some good comparison shots between the Blue Angel and the MPx <a href="http://www.ppcw.net/?itemid=2020">here</a>.

Over at howardforums and pdaphonehome, some have reviewed the 6315 and the roaming abilities, saying it was seamless and worked correctly.

Is that neat little transparency effect in all devices?

I heard all this rumor talk on this forum about this device coming to us as the Daxian Cu928, in CDMA format? What is the deal with GSM now?

I hope I won't be disappointed in Sprint again?

It really ticks me off that manufacturers don't make these devices both ways!

Yes, I paid a lot of money to get my site promoted in all T-Mobile MDA IIIs... ;-)

The HTC OEM device known as the "Harrier" is indeed a CDMA version with essentially the same physical properties, and is rumored to be carried sometime in the near future by Sprint and Verizon, with one major catch: apparently, there will be no integrated Wi-Fi. :( It's mitigable, I guess, considering that 1xRTT is pretty decently fast.

Oops! That's an image watermark, thought it was a background made for the screenshots.

I have three words for this device:

I (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29114) can't (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30600) wait (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31029)!

Do you all think it is worth it to just switch over to GSM since most of the cool stuff goes there it seems? I know Sprint has a faster network, but it sucks waiting for a good device? By the time a MDA IV comes around to Sprint it will be 2 years or more!

Yet more reasons to love this device. Gotta figure out how to get this past the missus given that I just got an iMate two months ago.

Do what works for you. I was VZW for a while, and then went to TMo because of the cool devices, like you said. I got lucky: wherever I need to use the phone, it works fine. I miss the higher speed on the i700, but the stability on the TMo PPC phone is much better (at least until 2003 came out in the i700).

Plus, the SIM card thing is really nice to have. I don't need to call someone or go online to switch phones.

I am not sure if they are talking about true roaming or about verification of the existing of a Wifi network at the moment of the first connection.

I hope they are talking about true roaming. BTW, for those who don't need a VPN, the verification of Wifi existence first, and connection to GPRS only if it doesn't exist can be achieved by working with Work|Work in the connection settings.

It is good to hear though that someone is doing some thinking on how to improve connection manager.

When my Palm and Nokia bite the big one (not for a few years, tho), this is what I want to get: a PDA/Phone combo. This looks nice, with its Wi-Fi, BT, GSM/GPRS, and such. Bonus points if it's VGA.
